This is just a basic chatty thread...feel free to recant the days events...

Today i set a record for myself..I yelled at a student the loudest i ever have in over a years teaching in Korea... I mean every other teacher in the building commented on it later... Some silly middle school girl who kept ignoring me and chatting to her neighbour... I was like "DIALOGUE BOOK, LESSON 11, UNDERSTAND?????!!!!!!!.At point blank range into her ear, nearly raised the roof...
very cathartic!!!

Nothing special today. The day after payday for me. It's a sigh of relief for the boss when I show up on these days I suspect, and for me it's a bummer knowing it's 30 days before I get more moola.

Every day is the same. Getting hit, sworn at, books thrown at me, and then replying in kind.

YAWN.

One of my students' mothers brought in some strawberries. I ate a few. I also explained what "cookin'" means in the phrase "If you smell what the rock is cookin'". I yelled many times, but only because that's how I teach vocabulary. If it ain't loud, they ain't rememberin'.

Well, after a breakfast of Kimchi, I peed into my fan (took a shower), dressed and closed the door on my fridgebox outside of World Cup Stadium to take the 85 minute, 3-transfer subway ride to Incheon. When I get there, I have a talk with a co-worker about why my attitude isn't getting any better. "You see," I explain,"as I take a 30% pay cut just to ensure I get paid on or near payday and continue to fund my own housing, I can't get excited about coming to work on Fridays from Seoul for one 90 minute class with ONE Mid-School boy who couldn't give a toss if he tried. So can't we re-schedule that class?"

"But then you'll not be here on Friday. We have to be here. We're Koreans! You must be here too!"

I almost throw a hot beverage on the sapp, but come to my senses: it's 3:00 p.m.!! Time to share the love!!

I turn into Mary Poppins' ambiguously gay half brother Basil for the wee darlings in my class, bouncing and braying like an ADD poster child who has had too much Fanta in his Corn Flight. The children squeal in delight and ask me what they always ask me: "Do you like Dong-Daejee? Do you like boshintang? Do you like.......???" I smile and answer in Konglish to them, wondering if there isn't anything else I'd rather be doing on Planet Korea right at that point in time.

Eventually, I finish teaching all 17 students in my hog-the-won and return to the comfort of my office for a coffee and a few well-deserved drags from a minty fresh Kool. I amuse myself with practicing my Korean comprehension skills through reading the legalese on the manager's desk from the MOL office and wonder when it'll be my name in Hangul on letters that bookmark issues that will probably never be resolved fairly nor adequately, let alone in a timely manner.

After 2 hours of deciding the best course of action on how to give a shared reading of "The 3 Billy Goats Gruff" to a gaggle of ajumma tomorrow morning, I put on my coat and hat, locate my rubbers, and make my way home. "WOW! Did I ever make a difference today!," I say to myself as I start for home. Ahhh, satisfaction!!

Taught my adults about "personal descriptions". The manager was late.. but thats usual.

My first Hogwon class i had a kid who got into a fight before class (all of 7 years old) then after getting reamed out by the director proceeded to get in trouble in my class and end up bawling his face off. I was quite content to let him pitch his tantrum but my director calmed him down abit.

the rest of the classes went normal. the "Ele" kids were enthusiastic and made me giggle my afternoon away. The middle school kids were slightly lathargic so i made sure to take 5 mins out to do some goofy stretching.

all in all, an average day. no one died and some kids learned some things. oh and i got into a fight with my girl.. so i guess it was "average" Rolling Eyes

Can I chime in, even though I work at a middle school? So far, it's been good. My girls are well, middle school girls. They are really like giggly gas molecules. Getting up early has been a bitch but I'm sure that'll take care of itself eventually.

5.10 class, walk in, girl crying, friend begins to abuse me in Korean, tell her to sit down rather harshly. Director's wife walks in and takes student crying and another male student from the classroom. Admin lady comes in and starts vacuming the floor. Discover that the girl and the boy had a fight. He has smacked her in the head with sufficient force to smash her glasses. Typical day in an undiscilpined hogwan. Grateful that it took place before I entered the classroom. Smile

One class to go and I'm outta here 'til this evening, in for another. Receptionist came late again, boss is nowhere to be seen. Got paid this month, quite a relief.
Early class students thin on the ground today, second all but one turned up... nice enough bunch, but one that won't tell me where he works... says it's a "notorious" company...I say, "take your pick"...
Ho hum.

PS CLG...??? Honey, ah ah ah ah ah ah, ahh sugar sugar, ah ah ah ah ah ah... are you my candy girl?? or did you scoff it?

And I'm soooooo surprised the Korean president's brother is a crook.....Not
