A few favorites:

www.fark.com

A great news (it's not news!) feed with a sense of humor.

www.geekologie.com

Geek blog. I only found out about it recently, and the archive is huge.

www.pbfcomics.com

Disturbingly hilarious web comic. Hasn't been updated in ages. Sad

www.dilbert.com

The entirety of Dilbert. 20 freakin' years of him. Recommended in small doses.

Thanks Bob! These will also be great during no-class-but-research time Smile

I'm so far ahead in lessons that I've got absolutely nothing to do. I've even started a new mural on one of the walls (covered in paper, of course).

I go to bannination.com sometimes. it's like fark.com but you can post pretty much anything without getting banned.

I also go to wikimapia.org and randomly label places on earth that I have been to. I also labeled my school!

I'm a bit cynical so I like this site: http://www.cynical-c.com

I have a bad habit of constantly trying out new apps so I go to sites like this:
http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/Freeware.html

and I use this site when my neighbors are noisy: http://www.simplynoise.com/

what about websites for downloading books - like college textbooks or non-fiction books?

This is an odd time wasting game/interactive toy type thing.

BTW I have nothing to do with this Blog. It's run by a guy in Daegu who is also a Hunter S. Thompson fan.

Yeah at work I've been downloading and reading classical Greek and Roman works during the copious amounts of free time I've had recently. The works are in printable format, but I just copied and pasted them into word and saved them.

I'll dredge up the address if you're interested.

I'm back with an iPad, so have downloaded tons of free books, as well as a few paid ones. What The Book's sales are going to drop a bit, I fear, with ebooks becoming more popular.

Ravelry if you're into knitting and crocheting -> www.ravelry.com

If you like reading blogs and like knitting and crocheting: -> http://needled.wordpress.com/
Needled is my all time fave blog. The author writes about historical crafting, and more recently about her recovery from a stroke. Always a very interesting read.

Bored and like reading vapid things? www.dlisted.com

If you're a girl and you like watching makeovers, the pixiwoo makeup channel on youtube is fun. It's a major guilty pleasure of mine. It's two English sisters who are makeup artists. Very good for killing about 15 minutes and getting the girly fix.

And the new york times multimedia photo pages, and www.boston.com for the big picture photoblogs.
