How do I say "just looking" or something similar in Korean? Overly attentive salespeople standing on top of me and staring at me expectanly drive me batty. Sometimes I don't know what I want. Sometimes I just want to look. If I am left to browse long enought I might find something I want. If someone keeps asking me what I want and standing two feet away, it will drive me out of the store. I don't know how anyone can stand that or find it to be good service. There has to be a polite way of asking someone to back off so I can shop. |

They're making sure you don't steal anything.
Seriously..just ignore them. |

Won't they just end up coming back and annoying you again, since you are asking them to "wait a minute/moment" |

It's annoying but because in those small shops they usually only have one size out on display they are there to help you as well as make sure you don't steal anything. |

Seriously, this is the biggest reason (well, maybe a close second to "I don't like what I see") why I haven't shopped much in Korea. I hate having someone two feet away watching my every move. I just leave the store. The only time I can browse is when all the shoppeople are busy with other customers.
It's simply a factor of personal space and obviously Koreans don't jive with that as we do.
Maybe it's a good thing...I've bought less crap I don't need.
Thank God it doesn't happen in supermarkets!!! |

Ugh I've refused to buy items when store ajummas hover too closely. Personal Space 101 should be a mandatory elementary Grade 1 course in Korea! |

I, too, am often tempted to say in my broken Korean that their high-pressure sales tactics have driven away a potential customer.
You could say 그냥 한번 볼께요. |

The only thing that really bugs me is when they look at me, look at what I am looking at, look back up and say "small."
Can't I just dream for one moment? Can't I decide what fits me or not? And besides, what if it's a gift? Grrrrrrrr |

Its the Korean idea of good service to be in close atendance to the shopper at all times.
They are also under constant pressure to be seen to be doing their job.
however this doesn't apply to paris baguette. |

I notice how those ladies are just focused on the money and know nothing nor care about customer service, they just expect you to bend over backwards for them in any situation. |
