Hi there,

We would like to order some new backpacks on the net that are around $150 per backpack. Do you think we would be charged customs fees on this when they enter Korea? They would be coming directly from the store.

Thanks so much!

Yes, you will have to pay about 18% duty on the backpacks + duty on the shipping.

Do they give you the package with a bill for the import fees attached, or do you have to pay before getting your package? I ordered an ebook reader and had it shipped to my school so I want to know if I should set money aside for the office staff to pay the mailman.

18% - ugh!

When I got my iPad I had to pay 70k right then and there before the deliveryman would give it to me.

While backpacks are a larger item, you could probably still get away with having them sent home first, and then have family re-pack them and send them via the post office. I've never had anything tagged with duty when it was sent from a private address and not a business.

Private sellers usually don't. They label as a sample, gift and undervalued in my experience.
