Yes, quite right. It's the rest of the world who give it that adjective. To distinguish it from real football. |

Give me rugby any day. NZ vs Australia? I'm there.
Soccer is a children's game in the states because it's easy. |
What? Don't yanks play a girl's game of rugby where they dress up in padding and helmets and call it American Football? hehe |
I'm not talking about organized sports. When I was younger, we went to the golf course near my house and played tackle football in nothing but our t shirts and shorts.
I AM a girl and I played with all boys. I was a bit of a tomboy when younger. And I went for the knees
EDIT: Padding may seem wuss to you, but I see it as smart when the players are the size of cars. |

Actually, I see both those games as simply awful. A Sunday match of Rugby has brought so many injuries to so many. And I just don't get the beauty of the game.
Football (soccer) however just mesmerises me. And I also prefer the kind of male physique required for it, than that required for Rugby (I'm a girl too ) It also seems less dangerous from a health perspective, except when you consider the headers. I'd rather play chess!

I adore a southern English accent. I wouldn't be marrying one if I didn't. |

Shouldn't it be called handball? I mean there's no skilled footwork involved.
Its unfortunate that America felt the need to abandon any sports considered "English".. as a way of forging their own identity after becoming independent. Admittedly cricket and rugby are not completely global, but soccer? talk about cutting yourself off. |

Cut off? American women have been the best soccer team in the world for years. |

Good point. That highlights how women's sport is not considered serious. But then that is also women's fault, for not paying any attention to it. |

Perhaps he should think up a more creative name, then.
You might consider "septic tank ball" to be appropriately witty. You're welcome. |
