Hi everyone,
Footprints Recruiting in Canada or Park English in Seoul Korea?
can you tell me the difference between these two?
Which is better, anyone with positive experience with either?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

USE BOTH + any other recruiter that has something on offer that you may be interested in.

What the other posters said.
I'm looking for a new job right now as well and from what I have noticed so far is the Korean recruiters that are actually in Korea are way better. The Canadian/American based ones ask for a ridiculous amount of docs, questionnaires, blah blah, but take forever to respond to questions and don't have many great positions (unless you're looking for public).
The Korean recruiters on the other hand call or email me as soon as something comes up, arrange interviews quickly, and don't make me go through a lot of the nonsense that the foreign recruiters do. However, they can be a bit pushy with jobs. |

@OP:
I agree with everybody, in that you should use as much recruiters as possible. I'm currently in the process of narrowing my options down/searching for a teaching position, and when I first started I was only looking at public schools (e.g., EPIK and GEPIK).
When I was doing this, I ONLY wanted to use one recruiter, because I thought it would be safer and easier. But it turns out that it really doesn't matter. It's actually more helpful, because you can literally "use" them to your advantage. It's helpful, because they answer all your questions, and you will find which ones are being dishonest/honest through weeding them out overtime.
It's a long process, that I'm still going through. But I gave up on public...I'm going to the hagwon-side. Therefore, no more recruiters for me.
Anyway, good luck! |

When I said it's "actually more helpful" I meant to say: It's actually more helpful to use more than one.
Sorry. |

This kind of post has been done to death, and I've tossed in my two cents on more than one occaision, but I have something different to say this time.
Before I get to it - don't use multiple recruiters for public schools. That is a bad idea.
Now - teachers use different/multiple recruiters, and schools use different/multiple recruiters, and quite frankly, especially in the case of South Korea, there is (in the scheme of things) relatively little variation in the contracts. 2.2? 2.3? Daegu or Daejeon?
What it comes down to is you have to use whatever makes you comfortable.
There is a great talk on www.ted.com and it is by Malcolm Gladwell and he talks a bit about food. He quotes a man and says "there is no perfect Pepsi, only perfect Pepsis."
There are teachers out there who are new, and need somebody to break everything down, and explain things step by step. They need to be called every other day just to talk them out of whatever piece of information they misinterpreted. They need to be told that, without a contract and a visa, it isn't a good idea to buy a plane ticket.
There are other people who are more self-sufficient. They want to talk to schools directly. They want to see a contract ASAP. They don't want people calling to check up on them. They have their visa documents, they know the drill, and they want to get there right away.
There are all kinds of teachers, and each teacher will prefer a different kind of recruiter.
There are no perfect recruiters out there, just like there are no perfect schools, or perfect teachers. Contact different recruiters and find the one that you feel comfortable with, and is able to help you find what you're looking for.
For the first type of teacher, the newbie who needs help. I'd say contact a few different recruiters, and work with the ones that make you feel comfortable. You don't want to work with 15 different recruiters, because odds are you'll get some, or several, jerk recruiters who will - quite frankly - make shit up. Then you'll contact the other recruiters, question every single honest thing they've ever said to you, and constantly say "well, the other guy told me this." Ultimately, it will just sour you on the whole thing. A few bad apples spoil the bunch.
For the second kind of teacher. The one who knows the ropes. Sure - work with 15. Find the best contract and get it done.
Do what works for you.

I actually agree with Will.
At first, I thought he was trying to convince you that working with multiple recruiters is a bad idea...aka, he was telling you not to do this.
BUT, he was NOT saying this.
He was saying that this is actually a good idea for a new teacher and an experienced one. But also he said: "Before I get to it - don't use multiple recruiters for public schools. That is a bad idea."
What he meant by this, I'm assuming, is that when you actually APPLY to a school don't use multiple recruiters. I agree with this, as I'm pretty sure your application will get rejected from EPIK/GEPIK at least.
So the idea is, use as many recruiters as you want and feel comfortable with when trying to find the info that you need. If you only need 2, then use 2. If you need 15, then use 15. There's no magic number, but like I said before, I would recommend the mantra of "the more the better." I only say this because when I was trying to apply with public positions, many ppl were saying things on here that were different from my recruiters advice, and my recruiters also disagreed with each other.
Therefore, it's going to be up to you who to trust and use. But when you're ready to apply, by that point you should only be using one recruiter, and give that person your application/documents.
That's the idea. Take it or leave it. |

I used Park English for my first job and they lied to me on a number of issues including class sizes (much bigger than I was told), my first paycheck (when i would get it), location of school in relevance to Seoul... I know other people who have used them and had no problems whatsoever. The only thing you have to consider with them is that they are a very big recruiting agency. I definately side with everyone here that you want recruiters who are actually IN Korea. I use a small recruiting firm currently and have had much better results and personal attention. |

Appreciate the support.
Think of it like the business relationship that it is. You might click with that recruiter, or that particular employee of that recruiter, or you might not. It could be the recruiter, it could be the employee, it could be the teacher, or any combination.
There are certainly differences, and just from looking at the website ParkEnglish seems to only work with South Korea, whereas Footprints isn't exclusive to South Korea. There are other recruiters who focus primarily on public schools, and rarely work with hagwons.
But - take the public schools as an example. There is absolutely no difference in the contract depending upon what recruiter you go through. So really, it boils down to the service and who you feel comfortable with.

Perhaps some public disclosure is in order from anyone commenting on this topic, who is currently on the payroll of Footprints or Park English. Your comments are obviously welcome, but in fairness to readers, you should preface your post by stating that you are employed by one of these recruiting companies. This would help place some context to your comments.
Will Turner, do you have anything you want to say to the rest of the class ? |

Absolutely, I work for Footprints. When I write things that might be a plug, I usually put "at Footprints" after my name, so people know. If you click my name I think you can read all my posts and see what I'm talking about. I thought my postings above were fair and balanced, so I thought I'd just put my name. The problem is if I put "Footprints" people say "agenda" right away.
For example, there was a girl recently who was looking for a website on how to get a background check, we had one on our website, so I sent it to her. I didn't say "at Footprints" because then people would turn around and say "oh hes just doing that to try and get you to go with Footprints," which I don't think is fair.
I thought what I had up there in this post was fair and balanced. I didn't plug either over the other, but maybe I'm wrong?...do you guys disagree?
As an aside, if you know me, then you must post on here a fair bit. So you'd probably also know I'm the only person who posts under his name and says where he works. I think we can all agree there are plenty of recruiters on these boards, but nobody else that I know of being honest. Except Rowan at ESL Planet, I know hes on these boards and though I've never met him, I hear he is a standup guy.
