Every now and again, I take a youtube clip with French or German subtitles, turn down the sound, and read the subtitles. Then I replay it with the sound to see how correctly I understood it.

It works well because the clips are short (or you can just watch a few minutes several times before moving on) and the topics can be much more interesting than what you'd find in a language package. And best of all, it's free. Smile

This is a nice easy one if you have at least intermediate French:

Or, you can play a clip without looking at it, and listen. Then go back and watch the clip and check the subtitles match with what you thought you understood.

This one is upper-intermediate/advanced (for those who like French).

This is one of my favourite subjects ever to talk about.

Here's a video I made explaining a method I like:

That's so cool. I like practicing my new Korean with my puppy. Although there is no response, it's a good way to just get the words out there.

I learned most of the Korean I know getting drunk in bars. Nothing like a bit of liquid courage to get yourself trying out random phrases with complete strangers. My progress with the language has drawn to a near halt since I stopped getting trashed on a twice weekly basis.

Hey mithridates, that's cool. Too busy right now to watch all of it, but I shall certainly enjoy checking that out later. It's so hard to keep your languages going when you are not in country, or when you don't know many native speakers where you are living.

For those who want to practice their 'football speak' in Deutsch: http://www.legofussball.eu/

It's a site full of little Lego action clips of notable football matches. Short and cute.

Ha! French for Geordies

This is particularly funny for me as my uncle was a Geordie but spoke fluent French.
