I don't get why so many of you guys got your panties in an uproar over a comment that most people live in Seoul.
First of all, roughly:
-40% of Korea lives in Seoul.
-60% of Korea lives in Kyunggi province, or however you spell it.
Fine, I was wrong. 75% was an exaggeration.... it was meant to prove a point. I should have typed 60%.
You want to sell to your biggest market. So why would someone just outside Seoul want to cut out the entire Seoul market?? If you live in Suwon, don't you want to sell to people in Seoul? If you live in Bundang, don't you want to sell to people in Seoul? etc etc.
So having to put an area is going to hurt all those people mentioned.
The commute to get from Seoul out to those areas, or from those aresa to Seoul, is relatively short, and the cost is minimal by subway. So basically 60% of the people are easily within the market of Seoul. That's why I made my statements...
If you lived "near Seoul"...I would still type Seoul if I wanted to make sure I could sell my product.
----------------
Kam1nsk1... you're right, the location helps. But I look at ads for products being sold, not necessarily where they are located. Many sellers state:
1) that they visit Seoul on weekends
2) might be visiting Seoul soon (in hopes of selling their product)
3) are willing to ship (just like Air said)
And no, I don't think a 100,000 won shipping fee for a 10,000 won item is realistic.
-----------------
You're correct, stating the location is a nice idea. But it doesn't have to be some policy where we state it in the title. If a seller doesn't want to post it, then won't it be his own demise if he possibly eliminates potential buyers.
However, space is limited in the topic line. I think most people would agree that if they had to choose when space was limited, describing the product would be considered more important than typing in the location. They can put it in the body of the original post.
------------------
Don't you think that putting the location in the topic-line could hurt people that want to ship their products?
If you see a location and it's not where you are from, you might not look at the ad. Is that fair to the seller? Maybe he wrote in his ad that he is willing to ship his product.
------------------
In the end, you agreed... you'll save the 10 seconds it takes for you to "click" the link, check the location, curse because the location isn't what you want, and then click "back" to go back to the main forum list.
Can I ask you though? Honestly, how many ads could you possibly be SERIOUS about buying on any one given day, that this would be a big problem?
If you like a product, check out the ad and see the location... if it's not near you, just click "back". It's no big deal, and certainly nothing that requires a new policy.
-------------------
Anyways, I haven't seen so many people cry over telling someone to quit crying.
The board ain't broke...no need to fix it. |
Reasonable reply, even if I still don't really agree with your rationale.
What I don't understand is why people choose to write unwarranted abrasive comments, then get all reasonable when they get slated.
Just be polite and reasonable in the first place! |

Kryten,
Bigoted? Are you drinking the water straight outta the tap again buddy?
Kam1nsk1,
To be honest, I didn't think "quit your crying" was anything rude, and I still don't. But, if you really found it that offensive, them I'm sorry, it wasn't meant to be that rude.
However, as for "unwarranted"... You had no problems complaining about how things were being done. I mean come on... you call my post rude? Others were more upset about my comments about Seoul than me telling you to quit crying. People are getting ultra-sensitive about everything these days. I mean, so what if my opinion was that I thought tons of ads would say Seoul. Is that really a big deal that I thought that? So what if I'm wrong. Why would anyone care? Funny what it takes to make people upset on these boards recently.
And now? It's so hilarious. Kryten's calling me a bigot... what a hoot. But I'm curious... Where's 10 people yelling at Kryten telling him to calm down and not attack someone? I mean, they sure spared no time in getting on my back.
Suddenly being a bigot (falsely accused mind you) is wrong, but being a hypocrit is fully acceptable.
Kryten suggested I get a life after calling me a bigot... Many on this board would find that rude and acceptable, and they would attack someone who said such things. But where are they now? Oh, nowhere to be found.
As for me, it's no big deal that some guy says that to me. It's his opinion. Does it influence me or my daily lie? Does he actually know anything about me? "No" for both answers.
It would be nice if others would think that way and let people say their opinions without blowing everything out of proportion. |

| I agree - would make this board more useful if it was in the description or the title. |

| I agree that you should post a location in your OP. How about a new rule where people actually know wtf they are selling and give more specifics instead of generic I have this FS (pm me)? |

But you often enough ARE rude.
Many a time uncalled for. |

Wes,
"uncalled for" is somewhat relative. Then again, I don't buy into mob mentality... I'd say a lot of people on this board do though. I'm all for the internet posses that are around here, really, I am...running around with the motto "stop wars by killing all the bad guys"... ahhh... the irony. |

Thats right mate, far from it being you with the attitude, everyone else is a bandwagon jumping sissy and you're a trail blazing interweb rebel with a tough no bs approach that gets the job done and the ladies excited... I think you're my forum hero actually, can you sign my bellybutton so when they make a movie about you starring Johnny Depp I can say you once touched me? |

| Or...(whisper it) could it be that, people don't have a go at those who attack you because, y'know, regardless of the wording (like 'bigot'), you do sound like something of a jerk? Hmmmm....I wonder... |
