I've been here for several years. I can't count how many times i've had to play kickball in dress shoes because the school 'forgot' to tell me about sports day.

Recently I opened a Hana bank account. My debit card will arrive one week after I opened the account. They say I can withdraw money using my bank book. No problem. No wait, there is a problem. Apparently you need a 5 digit code along with your 4 digit pin number to draw out money.

The little man behind the desk never mentioned that. I only had the 4 digit pin. I traveled 1 hour on the subway to Itaewon to hit up the foreigner stores only to find out I can't take any money out of my account. GRRRRRRRRRRR! The next day my co-teacher took me to the bank and we got it 'worked out'. I felt like going postal on everyone in the bank. Even the coffee girl....boom!

change banks. my bank doesn't have any additional five digit PIN for a customer's passbook.

wouldn't this be something you ask? it's your money, isn't it? i know exactly what goes on with my account, cards and passbook at ALL times. and why would you need a co-teacher to help you with a banking issue? my korean is worse than horrible, but when banking, i make sure i speak to an english-speaking CSR, and take due care to get my point across.

you went shopping without knowing you had access to any money? what are you, a moron?

real mature - you're angry at everyone else because of your own inadequacies.

i'll be the first person to say the way some things are done in korea are frustrating, but i'll never blame someone else because i'm useless.

Come on now. He wasn't told that he needed a separate passcode for the bankbook. This is the bank worker's job. If you don't know that something exists, how are you supposed to ask about it? Rolling Eyes

he said he's been here for several years. i would've expected a bit more diligence.

and again, it's his money.

i have no idea why you'd defend this guy.

Keep full training clothes and shoes at work. Plus some soap and a towel for showering afterward.

I come from Vancouver, a city that fails all too often. Korean incompetence pales by comparison.

Perhaps he used a different bank that didn't have this policy that he wasn't aware of. My bank uses the same pin for card and bank book. <<shrugs>>

Did you ever hear the saying educated idiot?
They(Koreans, especially education) feel it is not necessary for us(Westerners) to know what is going on,especially if it concerns us. Not until we yell or threaten them(most of the time) that is how they get the point. Rolling Eyes

Korea tends to toughen you up over time. Wink
it can take a long time though to anticipate and handle Korean-type behaviour. Even now they still come out with totally unexpected and bizarre stuff that just throws me.

Hana bank sounds exactly like Shinhan. Nonghyup NH is good.
