For all of you who are already in Korea -- how do you hang pictures on the walls of your school apartment? Are you allowed to use the small finishing nails like in US apartments, or do you have to use the sticky strips to hang them up?

I don't know, but my room is such a dump, I'm sure no-one would notice a few nails.

Get the hooks with the glue on the back. They work really well for hanging pictures or clocks or whatever.

I've tried the hooks, but they just rip the wall paper off. I have had to borrow a powerful drill from school and drill holes into the concrete (nails won't cut it). Then there are small plastic things you have to stick in the hole before you put a screw in. They are like screw condoms.

Very Happy

They are called wall-plugs.

The sticky wall hooks don't seem to work all that well here. I don't know what's up with this textured wallpaper.

Aren't your walls concrete? Mine always have been, with the exception of some pony walls on which I rarely hang anything.
I bought a drill (Bosch) and got a supply of concrete bits. I've found the hammering setting to be more effective. If you have a false ceiling, you may be able to hang some lighter things like fabric wall hangings with fishing line and tacks. I have one strung across a bamboo pole. It works nicely.

I use the plastic inserts as well. Best to use as long a screw as possible (can I say that?) and drill at an angle for best results (can I say that...?).

Those sticky wall hooks are crap.

The best thing I've found are the adhesive velcro strips available at any Emart. I used them to hang my degrees and several photos, and have never had any problems. I usually use several on each to help distribute the weight, just in case. They're also easy to remove.

I just use selotape. If it falls off, I add more selotape. Eventually it works.

The sticky backed hooks don't work, but there's another kind- you have to melt the glue on back with a lighter before sticking it to the wall and those work really well I found.

I've wondered about those. How easily are they removed?

Very easily. Unfortunately, they will also bring the wallpaper/paint with them.

I stand by the velcro strips. They're made by 3M and look just like this: http://www.amazon.com/3M-Command-17203-Picture-Hanging/dp/B000OF6X48

Available in every Emart I've been in.

You can get a black and decker hammer drill from e-mart for around 50,000W. I picked one up a few months ago, came with concrete drill bits.
You can buy packs of screws and anchors there as well to match the size of your drill bit. I've put up a couple shelves in my place using it, works great.

My place isn't a school apartment though.
