Look for some options in regard to replacing yourself. Check out some links with government websites and see if your parents' business qualifies for a traineeship or some form of employment subsidy.

Unfortunately due to the work that my parents do, there is no possible way that this could happen. Thanks for the advice though.

To me it seems rather pathetic to ask the advice of an internet message board on how to tell your parents you're going somewhere. Is it that hard to make your own decisions?

Tell them, pack your bags, and leave.

My family have there own business in which I work part-time. The business is such that it is basically impossible to replace me without my parents doing the work, which I do not want them to do.

If the business is stable then they'll be fine I'm sure. If you don't want to work for your parents then don't and if want to come to Korea then do it. You don't live for mom and dad, you live for yourself.

Are you motivated to grow a pair? A year is not that long.

Welcome to Korea.

Maxx yeah fair call mate...

But unfortunately my family's business is not that stable which makes it harder....

I don't think it is pathetic to ask others what they told their parents, it just makes it a lot easier for me (and others) to know what to say....

I agree, a year is not that long...hopefully they will see it that way too...

Thanks for the welcome to Korea, really appreciate it.

Hey Mum. Hey Dad. How's it going? Got some news. Great news actually. I am going to teach in Korea. I will let you know when I get there when the best time for you to come and visit will be. Sounds like a good job. I can always come back if it doesn't work out. Leaving in a few weeks.

...thats pretty much how i did it. it worked for me.

NOthing wrong with asking, esp their business, and if you're an only child-or if your parnets helath might be questionable.

Or you could start off with "I'm pregnant and I want to leave town"

The preganancy might work....although the fact that I am male, they may not believe it.

Although I do have the gut to pull it off....

I told, I didn't ask.

Sounds rude, but my parents know me. They can support me or not, and I will still go. They supported me, despite their possible true feelings.

Its not pathetic at all to ask others. You have doubts, and you think you might be costing your folks, no harm in that.

Are your parents, Cheyne, reluctant in your leaving for Korea because you lack degree and getting a job would be illegal and fraudulent?

Father knows best.

Cheyne,
I know nothing about your situation but running over here to see a girl is a big deal if that is the only thing you are coming for.
I know these might sound like stupid questions but in this country they are very important

1. how old are you and her?
2. Does she know you are coming??
3. Do her parents know about you and if so do they approve(if they don't it spells big trouble)
4. Where are you going to stay??
5. After coming here what is the plan?? Australians only get 90 days for a visa.

Don't call me a spoil sport but I know you met the girl in Australia but the way girls act overseas and the way they act here are much different. There are many societal pressures here(think 1940's) that will make a person conform to them.

Man, I wish you the best of luck but I'm wondering how much you've thought this through.

Just Because -

Mate I am leaving tomorrow morning to come to Seoul....for three and a half weeks. After that I will come back to Australia and figure out what the best move is for the both of us.

1. She is 27 and I am 23.
2. Bloody hope she knows I am coming...Yeah man of course she does. We speak to each other on the phone about twice a week as well as MSN and e-mail...
3. Both her parents know about me and I am meeting them when I go to Busan with her on the long weekend in April. Her parents are pretty cool with the whole situation...her sister is married to an Englishman...
4. She lives by herself so I am going to move in with her. We lived together when she was here in Aust.
5. Mate we have talked about her moving to Australia after she saves some money. We are going to play it by ear at this point.

Yeah I have put a lot of thought into it. I have not seen her for six months so I wouldn't call it a spur on the moment decision to go over and see her. I have been seriously thinking about moving there for about 5 months and will see what happens when I am there. Whether I like Seoul or not, the situation with her family, her friends....

Thanks for your interest mate and appreciate your perspective on things.

Well looks like you have found one a little bit out of the ordinary. Thats good for you, especially that the parents know and are cool with that. You are quite lucky in that respect.
