I heard from EPIK. Something bad! They were wanting to know the status of a document. A document I already sent them, in duplicate. Oh great! Not something I want to hear. As I have documented all of my documents quite carefully, I know what was sent and what wasn't-- that definitely was. Showed the recruiter a scan and asked to recheck for it, but I'm doubtful.

They claimed not to have my transcripts about a month ago. I flipped out. They found my transcripts.

Up until this point, "Everything is ok with your application". They requested 1 replacement document a while ago, I sent it, and they verified receipt of it, so if they really didn't have it then they would have mentioned it then. Clearly, they are just disorganized. I requested they look again, and will probably double request it when they come back to me to say that I never sent it (I'm expecting them to say this).

I'm not upset though. I will probably just start applying for hagwons in a couple weeks if they can't pound this out. Disappointing my recruiter (ESL Planet) doesn't seem to keep any records of what I sent. I guess we'll find out if having a recruiter does you any good, since I am not in contact with EPIK directly I need him to fight for me.

It turned out to be an oversight on my recruiter's part, as it happened. I said I wouldn't send on new transcripts until I got an explanation of what happened to the originals. Mention that they're official documents and expensive and all that. Not to mention the damned cost of couriering.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I won't be offered a place, I only sent emailed the initial application form and reference letters 3 weeks ago, and have yet to be assigned an interview even though they told me they would. However, I am delighted I found this thread, as I now know that in applying for the next bloc, which opens in October, I will need to get all the documents in order in August/September and have them ready to send off.

Best of luck and congratulations to everyone that got a place and hopefully I'll see ye in 2011!!!

Update: it was a mistake-- recruiter added my email to a list by mistake. So, the working assumption is still that I am good to go. Razz

That's actually pretty funny, I laughed quite a bit. Just glad I didn't stress TOO much! I only complained about it on here, so that's not bad. I showed restraint! Laughing

So, I don't really want to hear back from EPIK for another couple weeks probably. Anytime before then and it's likely bad news! But I think in a couple weeks we'll start seeing more places fill up and thus people being informed.

@munsterdevil: Ever considered GEPIK? They hire at oddball times and you might get placed earlier with them! You're in the know now, so when the next EPIK hiring opens you can be first in the gate and virtually secure any place of your choosing... so it's not all bad.

Edit: I have to work in 5 hours and I can't fall asleep! Laughing Guess I'll have to gulp down the coffee tomorrow at the office. Maybe some hot chocolate too.

Just thought I'd add a bit of imput from the Korea end

An Employe at my school took all of my documents to the Ministry on Monday the 14th (June). That was the last day for any current teachers that wanted to re-sign their contracts.

A Supervisor for the Provincial Office of Education told me that the POE will then decide if they will agree to re-sign the contracts, if they do new contracts will be sent out. This seems like its going to take a while.

How many current EPIK teachers that state they wish to re-sign and eventually get re-signed is pretty much guess work, although it will be based on previous years ratios.

If you're guaranteed a job congratulations..... bring as much cash as you can, just in case of unforeseen circumstances (for instance, I had to buy a scooter to get to work). After your first pay just send back what you don't need.

Its cheap to send money back home, I just send back a set amount each month via automatic payment .

Someone on my orientation last August had about $US200 until the government money started to come in and that was very silly

I received an email about a week or so ago, which said that I would be contacted for an interview date and time. I haven't gotten any response ever since. Is it too late for me? Am I out of luck?

Someone mentioned that all of the EPIK locations are filled up. Is this really true and could it be the reason why they haven't contacted me yet? sigh =*(

Honestly, you should look for a different job. I suggest going through a recruiter for GEPIK, and applying for public schools who may be posting to hire directly. EPIK is filling locations, they have enough people who have already sent documents to fill up all these spots and then some. Their focus has shifted away from interviewing, but this isn't to say they wont still be doing some.

They are now focusing on filling up Seoul (which will go pretty quick now that it is the focus) and processing documents. Then they will start sending out placement info in a couple weeks to the majority of people.

Hi Morticae,

Thanks for responding to my post!
I would apply for GEPIK but there would be a problem with the
documents. I already opened up both of my recommendation letters since EPIK wanted me to scan them before sending out the hard copies. My guess is that I would have to request the recommendation letters again from my professors but that alone would take a while.

I guess I just have to wait for the next school semester to re-apply.

Why would it matter if they are open? I did not send mine in envelope, I just sent the letters opened.

Oh because I read online somewhere that GEPIK required sealed recommendation letters. If not, I guess it's better for me.

Here's a link that talks about the sealed letters.

Going thru a bit of a nightmare in my current job atm - paycuts / redundancies etc. If I knew Epik was a cert I'd take the redundancy and run! anyone else in a similar boat? Ppl are all telling me to have a back up plan in order just incase, but it feels so close and I almost dont know where to start re looking at private schools n stuff! *sad face*

I am quickly approaching to 5 weeks since my final documents have been sent and not a peep from SMOE yet. I'm hoping no news is good news as well!
