Not only that, but you can't get it on your own(at least in Korea). You have to get it through a travel agency. At least that is what I was told, and so that is how I did it. Took about a week. |

SOME major Chinese ports of entry have a travel agency who will process your visa BUT when you're tired, laden with luggage, is this the way you want to arrive? Sorting through your luggage for photos, documents, etc.? Besides, it could take 2 hrs. to 2 days to get the visa!
GET THE VISA BEFORE YOU GO!
Also, are you in Korea? If so, don't frustrate yourself by dealing w/the PRC embassy. Pay a travel agency the fee for getting it done. |

Seriously? Where? I've never, ever heard of this. The US state department travel website says:
"A valid passport and visa are required to enter and exit China. The visa must have been obtained from a Chinese embassy or consulate before traveling to China. A U.S. citizen arriving without a valid passport and the appropriate Chinese visa will not be permitted to enter China and will be subject to a fine and immediate deportation at the traveler's expense."

I wouldn't expect China to be kindly understanding of your situation should you make a mistake that goes against their rules. Apply before you depart and cough up an insulting $140 for that tourist visa. And do read up on the communist laws before you go there and open your mouth when you see something objectionable in your mind. |

Five years ago, I arrived in Zhuhai under the false impression that because I was with someone who would vouch for me for a job, I could get in w/out a visa(work or otherwise). WRONG! I was lucky...after a 30 hour trip I got a visa(in "only" two hours). It cost me about 30 bucks(big money in mainland China). That was at the Macau & PRC(proper)border. A travel agency right at immigration did me the "favour".
Bottom line? DON'T go to the PRC w/o having a visa first! |
