So,

when we get our diploma notarized, then apostilled, am I suppose to do this with my original diploma, or a photocopy?

i wanted to make sure since none of the other threads don't mention photocopy.... or when I do a search, the page doesn't work...

As I understand it, the original diploma can be sent as is. It needs neither to be notarized nor apostilled.

However, if you do not wish to send your original diploma, then the copy you make of it must be both notarized (I think by the institution from which you received it - but double-check on this) and apostilled.

You might just want to have a photocopy on hand for safety's sake.

I've been told to BRING my original, but do not notarize or apostille it. Make a photocopy (or two just to be safe) and have THAT notarized and apostilled.

At least, this is what my current school wants. I would double check with the school you're in contact with. Good luck! :]

I would send the original if I were you.

I thought I could send a copy. Got it apostilled and notorized. The school thought I could send a copy too... but the immigration office rejected it. Had to spend $35 more dollars to mail just the diploma.

Replacement diploma only costs $25 from my univeristy.

No recruiter in their right mind will tell you to send on the original transcript.

Get a nice colour copy of your degree scroll made. Your university will stamp it to authenticate it. In Ireland at least, that counts as an authenticated copy of a document from a State-accredited institution so notarisation isn't necessary and they'll go ahead and apostille it.

Then you go and get a colour copy made of your apostilled degree scroll copy and you're good to go Smile

Yeah I got a nice color copy of my diploma made on high quality, heavy paper and then I had it notarized and apostilled.

Dont ever send in your original copy. They dont need it!

For me, ordering up another original degree is cheaper than getting a certified apostilled copy! Easier, too.

The law school at the university I live near charges $10 for each photocopy for notorizations (approx. 3-5 days wait time too). It's $5 if you're enrolled in that school! So if you live near one, check it out!

Just a note which may apply. If you are applying to EPIK then they will NOT accept your original diploma if you send it to them. They demand a certified and apostilled copy of your diploma. I asked them about sending my original and they declined that option straight away.

I wouldn't send the original unless it's very easily replaced. I used a notarized and apostilled copy and it was fine.

Option 1: notarize a photocopy.

Option 2: notarize the real document.

Most people would go with option 1 because you will probably need your diploma if you change job. But if your requesting agency ask for the real diploma, you can always order a new one with your school. It would be a hassle though.

Notarize the copy of diploma, then apostille should be good enough. The key is your notary. Some notary don't know what they are doing, they'll put the wrong attachment. Not sure how those people got commissioned.

If you need help in this matter contact Apostille Pros. They specialize in this matter.
