I love this show.

To Catch a Predator was a reality television show that featured a series of hidden camera investigations by the television news-magazine Dateline NBC devoted to the subject of identifying and detaining those who contact people they believe to be below the age of consent over the Internet for sexual liaisons. Men are lured to meet with a decoy under the pretense of sexual contact. The investigations, many of which have been reported by Dateline correspondent Chris Hansen and producer Lynn Keller, are conducted as an undercover sting operation with the help of online watchdog group Perverted-Justice. Since the third installment, law enforcement and other officials have also been involved in the operation, leading to the arrests of most individuals caught in the sting.

I don't see the point of the post, but yeah I've watched this before, definitely interesting/entertaining.

However, one of my friends has a problem with it in that it's almost creating a crime that wouldn't have otherwise existed, setting someone up and arresting them for trying to do it... It's a gray area of ethics... And then they publicize it, making money off a crime they created (even though, true the person may commit a similar crime in the future).

It freaks me out though when the dude will buy the kid a toy/gift and bring a case of beer with them, plus condoms...

I've watched it, but it gets a little boring after a few shows.

As for the entrapment issue, I don't feel that they are 'set up' at all. They initiate, they hunt, they get caught.

I have a big problem with that show. At no point were any actual minors involved, so no crime was committed.

each state has varying rules regarding solicitation of a minor for sexual acts. I'm guessing intention plays a certain part.

With prostitution stings, does there need to be actual prostitutes involved? How about actual drug dealers? Real hitmen?

I can think of a number of instances where 'real' people are not involved.

All points are valid and completly rational.
I approach the show as a human reaserch project. I watch the program for fashion, dialoge, interior decor and Justin TV chat log. Maybe I shouldn't take the subject so cavalier. I don't know why but this show fascinates me.

Maybe my sense of humor is off-beat.
I find this scene so funny:

Something for deskwarmers. There is no social value to it. Hey it's off-topic. However, you made a good point. +1 for you

the funniest on this one is the 54-year-old Rabbi meeting for some gay sex.... it better have been kosher meat he was looking for... Evil or Very Mad

and given that "Attempting to Entice a Minor To Engage in an illegal sexual activity" or similarly worded felonies are the usual charge, it would appear they have committed crimes online.

The rapper Cam'ron made his own version of this show where instead of arresting the pedophile him and his friends kicked their ass. Unfortunately his lawyers advised him not to put out the video, but I would have loved to see it.
