After reading these forums and other sites about living in Eastern Asia countries and the treatment/reaction/behavior towards foreigners, at the basic level it seems to have a lot to do with appearance and not looking like the locals, racially. I could be wrong
However, for those foreigners who have roots from other Eastern Asia countries (or were raised outside the country) and are able to blend in with the crowd (appearance wise), do they miss out on most of how the locals treat/react/behave towards them?
So basically, what are your opinions on the advantages and disadvantages for Asian (Eastern) vs Non-Asian Foreigners and vice versa in Korea?

They MIGHT blend in. If they're Chinese or Japanese they probably won't stand out. However, if they're Southeast Asian, South Asian, etc. then they will still stand out.
This country doesn't have the greatest record for its treatment towards non-Korean Asians. From the account I've heard (I'm not of Asian heritage myself), a Caucasian is generally more respected than others (apart form Koreans, of course). |

| I don't get a lot of attention, which is good, as I can go about my day without being accosted by curious drunks. What gets annoying after a while is always having to explain to Koreans that I'm an American (no, really, I am!) and having them act like I'm just yanking their chain. |

I would rather live among Koreans than westerners IN KOREA.
Too many westerners here, in my experience, live like they're on vacation. The 500 mile rule.
When I go back to Canada, I would rather not live around Korean immigrants. |
