My co-teacher asked me yesterday to make a board game for cooking verbs for our summer camp, He gave me all the pictures and sample sentences.
He was going to give me second period off to do it since it had to be submitted before lunch. Nice!
It's going to sent to the education board who will make a city wide text book for camps since they are three weeks long this time.
Mysteriously he said to remove the name part (his and my name). I hope that is not because he is going to claim it as solely his work. |

SallyB:
More power to you producing a book or website with fresh useful lessons appropriate to vacation camps. Emphasis on fresh. Really. I might even purchase Sally's Superduper Ready-to-Use Camp Lessons if they have some merit.
Theres loads of well-intentioned books on store shelves now that borrow & tweak from each other while seldom offering anything new. Many by long-established names in the field. With your 3 years experience you're going to trump whats already out there?
Ditto websites. I wouldnt consider putting one dollar down until that site had shown me some unique & proven value over time.
You're studying publishing. Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt identifying your target audience the first priority? Excuse the cynic in me, but yours seems naively & impossibly broad. What, exactly, are you bringing to the table?
[& yes: wordsearches are a flimsy crutch for lazy teachers.] |

This thread is typical ESLCafe: A veritable truckload of negative responses.
SallyB ignore these idiots and go with the idea. I'm sure there are plenty of teachers out there who would shell out a few $ for a pre-prepared camp curriculum. It would save hours of prep-time.
An idea for you: Have a free sample lesson available for download. We'd be more likely to part with money if we can see what we're getting first. |

Sally,
Steal these ideas and sell them. No problem. You will be a millionaire by the end of the summer!
Why reinvent the wheel? Why even work? Just sell it. All my stuff is free. So is a lot more. Tens of thousands of free resources for your own repackaging and sale. Bottle the wind.

Seriously, two hours a day for two weeks is not enough time for a "curriculum". I usually spend the time playing games and getting to know the students better since my class sizes are smaller and I actually get a chance to talk to individuals instead of striving to keep 35 students of widely varying English abilities enrapt throughout a lesson that well over half of them couldn't care less about. |

Just curious if anyone has been asked by their coteacher for the curriculum/lesson plans so far in advance that the classes, students and grade levels haven't been determined yet.
What did I do? If you have any of the Let's Go series, they basically provided a bare minimal summarization in the front of the book which, with some doctoring up, can be used to provide the nagging coteachers with something just to shut them up since paper=productivity. |
Just create an outline of some generic plan, then make your real plan later. What you turn is is just a formality.
I usually turn in my last camps cirriculum (with slight modifications to make it look different), and make my actual plans the day before each session. |
