It's beyond a mere "chew, chew, pop, pop"... it's more like "SNAP, CRACKLE, POP, SNAP, CRACKLE, POP".....
I honestly don't mind people blowing bubbles... sure, it's louder, but you only get a single, brief noise once every 10-20 seconds.
The ajummas here make about 5 noises per second... absolutely mind-numbing!
And don't forget - obligatory open-mouthes! |

I saw a piece on KBS news a few weeks ago about a Korean-American female pilot in the US air force stationed at Osan in Korea. I couldn't understand the story (it was in Korean), and I guess they were simply pointing out that she was a Korean-American female, and a pilot. Okay, cool.
Anyway, they showed her doing morning exercises in formation, (ie;PT) and she was chewing gum!
Chewing gum in formation! A US officer! A pilot! What the hell is that! |

I've tried emulating the "snap, crackle, pop" but can't get it right...how do they do it? |

heheh.. just ask her not to.. make a little joke of it even...or just tell her outright. She might not like you for a day or so, but it'll save a year of snap, crackle and pop... |

see unfourtantly said teacher is one of my korean co-teachers. Now if it was the math teacher I wouldn't care (although math teacher who is opposite me spends time gazing freely at my chest) but this woman could make my life hell if I cause offence.
but it's not just her, my ex bos, the adjuma on the subway, bus etc. they all seem to do it. |

I see what you mean...yep take it easy.
I suppose I realised that they never fire you at these places, you can get away with a lot. And koreans always seem to speak their minds very abruptly, no holding back to me so I've started to do the same. if you're a generally friendly and cool person like it sounds you are, they'll come around after a few days no matter what you say... |

I must admit, I'm a gum chewer.
I chew at least 4 hours a day, some days half the day. |

my favorite is the floral flavor (wow!) or the coffee. both just make me want to chew louder and harder than i would with regular spearmint or juicy fruit. |
