Seconding the Sinchon Woodstock as a nice establishment.

Sinchon in general has a lot of nice little places scattered about. It's a great place to explore and find something that suits you.

In the past I didn't mind GoGo's when I was drunk out of my mind, but 10K is ridiculous. To be fair, I don't think there's always a cover, rather they seem to instill one at random times. Went there on a Saturday a month or so ago and there was no cover, went back a few weeks ago and it was 5K, then once again 10K. But still, any cover at all is too much to pay only to have to deal with the plastered GI's and obnoxious plus-sized foreign women who often frequent the place. Goodbye, indeed.

Just around the corner from Woodstock is an awesome Bull-Dokk( Spicy chicken restaurant. Always has a long line up great food.
It's not a proper Go-Go if it doesn't have a Barfine. Otherwise it's just a Korean tease bar. Or just a glorified juicey bar. There were proper Go Go bars in Songtang in the late ninties. They had nice looking Korean pole dancers. These have been replaced with Pinoy juicey girls.

Dude, they're talking about a bar in Hongdae named "GoGos", not an actual gogo/hooker bar!

Haha. Love the use of the word "proper" in order to confirm the expertise on the subject matter.

What also would be nice is an oldies bar that focused on classic soul and R&B.

most foreign bars in hongdae suck. gogos and janes groove are best to be avoided. beer o clock in sinchon is good as well as some in bupyeong. the 2 bars mentioned in bucheon are exact replicas of each other. ive actually found some korean bars play classic rock more than foreign bars.

GoGo's sucks super bad now. I was there last weekend and they have completely changed the place. First off, the dj is now moved to behind the bar and there is this small dance stage that nobody really dances on until they are too hammered to remember that they did. Second, they have split it so that downstairs is now Pop ONLY and upstairs is Rock. Stupid. Last, they moved the dart board to be right next to the second bar in the back downstairs. So now if someone like me wants to play darts, they have to be in everyone's way who is trying to get drinks. I seriously wish I could speak with the owner and explain the phrase "If it isn't broken then don't fix it."

id rather hang out at places that dont charge and play some decent music.
but yeah, id have to agree.. its sad seeing hongdae going downhill that much. i hope they will see that this is driving the people away instead of getting them to go to their places....

every year a new group of koreans turn 19! and come to drink!
Hongdae is only driving away the ones who have already burnt out, and put all their money into the bar owners pockets! the bar owners are just waiting for the next year to come around for the new influx of students to arrive!

If you want good gogo bars don't bother with Korea. Go to Nana Plaza in Bangkok or Walking street in Pattaya. I 've also heard some people who brag about Angeles city in the Phillipines. This is usually from the Saturday afternoon crowd at the Seoul pub.

Whatver you do don't go to the rip off Pinoy places in Dongducheon or Songtang. These places willl do nothing for you put burn a serious hole in your pocket.

Angeles city rocked back in the 90's, dunno what it's like now. Can't imagine it's changed that much.

I live in Bucheon and there are a number of bars within the bucheon/incheon area that I've found to be better than Seoul in nearly every way. In Songnae there is The Park and Rhythm and Blues. They are located right across from eachother which makes it nice.

I really like the people that run R & B. So it pains me to say this. But
they have THE most annoying crowd. I went in there to watch the Korea
vs. Greece game. I expected a rowdy atmosphere but was blown away at how the teachers were acting. There was about 15 people with those horrible plastic horns, blowing the blowing the living shit out of them. Screaming TAE HAN MIN GUK!!! And it's like you guys aren't even Korean.

Another time I went in there for Sunday morning breakfast. It was maybe
11am. I was pretty hungover. I order my food, and as soon as I sit down.
They start BLASTING BOOTY RAP! So loud I can't hear myself think let alone the person next to me. And I mean it is SUNDAY!!! Half the place is hungover. I guess on weekend mornings they let some of the regulars
control the jukebox. So if you go there during that time. Expect to hear
THE SHITTIEST music blasted at full volume.

omg thank you. Nearly the same goes for Park bar a few stores down. Especially when they let nearly any asshat wearing a sports jersey and owning a guitar on stage. Not to play music either. To "jam" like they're a 15 year old garage band. As soon as I see someone approaching the stage with instruments, that's when I know it's time to go.

Club Mass owned until Jina Kim moved on...

Volume is good some nights...

Then again, those are clubs, but so is Jane's.

You guys should check out Papa Gorilla. No military allowed, always packed with hot k girls.

Yeah what a dump that place has turned into. Sad because it used to be a great time a few years back.

I poked my head in upstairs last sat night and they were showing some bizzare scifi movie with the rock music blaring. Also they blocked off all of the windows so it's got a clostrophobic feeling and dark as hell. No ventilation whatsoever. Yuk yuk yuk. Definitely my last visit.

Was in RnB a few weeks back and had a great time though. Even the bands were halfway decent. Is Stompers on the hill the best place in Seoul for live music these days?

Mostly foreigner cover bands.

Very rarely (usually when they coax bands to come from Hongdae) they put on really good shows.
