Hi all~! Rae here.

Has anyone lived or visited in Cheonan? I've looked up as much information as possible but am having trouble making an accurate depiction of the place due to the recent accident (thanks, Google).

Reading Town in that particular city interviewed me today and I was looking for what you all thought of it. So far I have...

+ Hiking/Mountains
+ Yoga
+ Shopping
+ Eating (like every other city?)

- 1hr south of Seoul (could be good or bad)
- Bad experiences in other cities with Reading Town
- Long #2 train in the city

Any insight would be great. I was looking forward to the Bucheon ECC job, but my paperwork won't be ready by then (boo, hiss). Thank you!!

I haven't heard much to recommend Cheonan. It's more like 2 hours to Seoul too, more if you want to get anywhere in the north or east of the city. You can go the whole way on the metro though so it's only about 2 bucks each way

It's only an hour by bus to Seoul (Express Terminal) or 35 minutes by KTX.

My bff lives in Cheonan (I live in seoul) and its not a bad place. The Yawoori area has some great shopping, bars and clubs. The bus system gets you around the city with little problem. It has 3 train stations that I know of, all on the 1 line (its actually 2,500 for the metro into seoul). Bus and slower trains are just shy of 2 hours and the ktx is just over 30 min to seoul.

Its a solid place to live if you like to travel to different parts of the country (as you're closer to most of korea then you would be in seoul).

I think when in Cheonan you do as the Cheonans do.

It's from Thunderbirds. As to who made the gif for I don't know, I first happened on it years and years ago through a friend.

I lived in Cheonan last year for a while.

Yeah it's a good sized city with a really good expat teacher scene. Lots of good bars and restaurants, especially around Yawoori.

Oh and it's not far from Seoul, if you need to do some serious shopping or have a big night out.

One thing that seriously annoyed me though is that there are two or three nightclubs there that wouldn't allow western-looking people in. I found this astonishing given the cosmopolitan and modern feel of the city Confused

I don't think this will bother me too much. I'm not much of a nightclub person (that might change when it's one of the only things to do, haha) and we have the same kind of establishments here. If you aren't (insert minority here), you will either be told to leave or will feel astonishingly uncomfortable because you're the odd one out and no one will include you. At least, that's how it is in Richmond, Va. I'm sure other places let you 'mingle' better in other cities in the US. Laughing
