|

I am looking to send a suitcase in a box to America and the max weight will be 50 lbs. I need it there in three weeks max. Does anyone know what the post office would charge? I am going to the post office, but I am looking to save a trip. Thanks |

If you need it there in 3 weeks, you will have to do air mail and that will be insanely expensive. I sent a very small box with 1 book, 2 paper lanterns and some candy and it was 25,000. |

What if I give it 5 weeks? |

The two options seem to three weeks or three months. Fifty pounds in three weeks will run you somewhere between 100'000 to 200'000. Three months, I have no idea. |

I sent a bunch of stuff home by ground. They said 1-2 months, so I guess it'll be a gamble if you decide to do it that way. Also, if you are sending something by ground to the USA the largest size box they let you send is a size 5, which is much smaller than a 50lb suitcase. You might want to send the more important stuff through air mail and anything not as important by ground. |

Ship the contents in #5 boxes and ditch (sell) the suitcase.
It will be too big to send by post.
USA is in "Zone 3" for surface and has its own rates for air parcel.
MAX weight for surface shipping is 20kg (44lbs) per box. 48k won per 20kg and I don't know if they ship surface to the states any more. You will have to ask.

To send 2 boxes with a combined weight of 50 lbs would cost about 230k won by air parcel and about 80k won by surface.
Air will take 10-21 days (usually and subject to US customs delays) and surface will take 60-120 days + any delay getting through US customs.

I sent home a huge suitcase through the post last year. It weighed 29kg. They told me 30kg was the max weight they would send. They taped two big boxes around it. It got to my parents' house in three days. I think I paid around 190,000 won. Can't remember exactly, but it was definitely less than 200,000 won.
That was to Canada. Don't know if it would work differently to the U.S. |

Tom is right, there is a limit on the size of what you want shipped. Best to ditch the suitcase and give it to someone. |

I am going to keep the suitcase. It is brand new and I need it. I will pay United 235,000 for the extra suitcase. I appreciate all the information. |

Is there any way to get a larger item, like a desktop computer or a flat screen TV to America by ground? |

Flat screen = no - too large for post. Carry it or send by delivery service (may cost almost as much as selling it here and replacing it there).
Desktop = Yes. It is small enough to send by surface post (but expensive to ship as a whole unit by air). They are typically 13-15kg.
Alternative is to strip it out of the case and ship it. Fits in a small box and weighs less than 3kg. Send by EMS or air parcel. Cases are cheap enough to replace.
