|
|
I searched the word "fingerprinted" and found all kinds of information on CBCs/CRCs but my specific need has been unmet.
Short question: Where can I go in Korea to be fingerprinted? I need the official cardstock/signature of the person doing it and all that jazz. Once I have the card, I know it will be easy peasy to complete the process for my homestate. I just need to be fingerprinted.
I would like the name of a specific place in Seoul or Bucheon. If you know the website, even better! Will I need to go to Itaewon to find an English speaker? Police stations give me anxiety and if I am also met with confused stares, I may just faint.
Thanks bunches! |

Take a Korean co-worker (for language assistance) and go to your local GU-police station (not one of the little police boxes or dong stations).

Most cop shops will do it as long as you're able to explain that you only want them to do the printing procedure itself, not a full background check.
If you don't have them, you can order the cards online from whatever agency you're attempting to get your CBC from. |

I tried to go to the local cop shop a few years ago for this (ironically, if you are aware of my posts on the current events forum) a few years ago. With my boss. They wouldn't do it. They said they had no procedure for this. It turned into a shouting match. The head cop gave her his card with his signature. She suggested that some unscrupulous school directors might use the signature to fake some kind of approval for a "faked fingerprint witness scheme." He said he didn't care.
The youngest and female cop grinned when she my cringing reaction to the shouting.
Besides the shouting - which is one thing I cannot bear here, especially from people who are supposed to be responsible - I had to put up with calls from the head of the kindergarten department demanding when I would be back, as she had been tasked to watch the kids while this farce went beyond the hour we had for lunch. Usually she was great to work with but she had no idea how to handle a room full of kindergartners and probably had a load of other responsibilities on her plate.
Later, the boss was apologetic. All I could think was "What a huge farce and ridiculous waste of time this all is," as the people who are supposedly in charge of keeping the peace couldn't be bothered to deal with a foreigner who had walked into the station of his own accord to cooperate.
Why would anyone depend on them later when it might matter?
Ttompatz and others, I gather you have had different experiences, or have knowledge of some. Perhaps the circumstances have changed. In any case, I got my CBC from home and never gave prints to do it.
I am not disappointed. |

I downloaded the necessary forms from the embassy website (they were translated into Korean) and took to the local police station.
No problems. |
