The dog was a Corgi. He could do all the usual tricks, like "roll over" and "shake", but nothing fancy. He was a little rascal, but very loyal, he used to follow me all over the house. Being a herding breed, he loved to chase and be chased. He also loved car rides and walks and his squeaky toys. When he wanted someone to play with him he would often lie on his back to show off.
He was my best friend, and it will be hard for me to not see him when I eventually go back to the States.
At least my cat (who also lives with my parents in the States) is still very much alive and well so far. |
He didn't bite your ankles ever, did he? One of the Queen's footmen was having his ankles bitten from behind by one of her Corgis and he gave it a firm kick in a vain attempt to be rid of it. Unfortunately she (the monarch) happened to be observing from a window and that was goodbye for the footman.
Sally, I think that you should dig a little deeper into the circumstances of your dog's death. Dogs have a great sense of survival. Was it barking a lot for example?? Anyone in the neighborhood showing antagonism?
On the other hand, if you know that investigations would definitely get you nowhere then obviously don't go down that route. I really don't think that your dog died on account of your absence of only 5 days.
So don't beat yourself up about it. |

| Aw, I'm so sorry to hear this. My family had two corgis, and they died at the ages of 12 and 14, respectively. The one who was 14 had to be put down just a few months ago, when I was in Korea and couldn't say goodbye. I'm sorry your family lost yours so young. |

oh ForwardObserver! You really know how to pull my hippie-green heart strings!
Sorry about your dog, OP. Myself, I left my childhood pet cat, who was 18 years old (!!) when I came to Korea way back when. She got really sick that year, but never died. She held on until I came home for Christmas. She died peacefully in the night over that holiday. |

My sweet baby cat died back in mid-January. We'd had him for 17.5 years and got him when he was 3 weeks old. I always called him my son because it really felt like he was my child. he would even give kisses, you'd lean over and he'd come up and lick your face, he'd greet you at the front door when you came home, stand next to you until you went to sleep then he'd sleep on your pillow. Anyway, I found out over Skype. My parents were both crying. I've never been so distraught in my life, I just screamed and screamed and cried for days. I still can't even talk about him without crying. It was so, so so hard being over here alone during that time, especially knowing I never even got to say goodbye. The worst part is I was coming home in 3 weeks for a visit.
I'm really sorry for your loss There is nothing harder. |

So sorry to hear about your loss, my dog here in Korea is like my child.
Anyways, I stumbled across this link awhile back http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/ . You can volunteer to help at animal shelters along with other foreigners. It may be a great way for you to meet people and play with other dogs, or perhaps even adopt one of your own. |

Yeah, it really sucks when pets die Sorry for your loss.
I think dogs make it worse because they are so damn loyal, following you around everywhere, sleeping at your feet, and jumping with joy when you come home.
I rescued my Cocker Spaniel when he was less than a year old, sick, abandoned, and starving on the streets of Seoul. I've had him for 2 years now and he's truly the kindest, most loving creature I've ever met. Almost as if he understands and still appreciates what I saved him from. When he goes I don't know what I'll do... |

| Wow that has got to be one of the worst things that could happen. For what its worth, it really isn't your fault. |

Death is inevitable...everyone reacts differently...some wail for show and some wail because they mean it. Others are more emotional and some show no emotional....I take the approach...it's done, get over it and get on with my life or else it will make me a wreck. But I never forget.
I have had my dog for 14 years....got him before he was born! And I know I'll be deeply hurt when he passes....animals are better than people sometimes! |
How do you get a dog before its born? |
That's easy! I had his mom! And his mom ran all over the hood and got herself in a family way and......now you know the rest of the story. |

Same thing happened to me.....my dog of 16 years had to be put down within weeks of my arrival. I knew it was going to happen as she was old and she was really slowing down....you can just tell when the time is near. The only good thing about it is that I had been teaching in England the previous year, so I came home and had a good 4 months with my gorgeous German Shepherd-Australian Cattle Dog cross....I spoiled her rotten, spent loads of time playing and sitting in the sun.....I knew when I left to go to the airport I would not see her again, so I was prepared. It doesn't make it hurt any less, though.
.....and now I'm crying. Damn. |
