|
|
Where can I find a somewhat comprehensive map of the bus routes in greater Seoul--particularly all the area the Seoul subway system covers? Or at least the Bundang and Seoul?
So, everyone's told me, "take the bus; the bus is faster than the subway for going longer distances," as in Suwon to Seohyon or Seohyun to Itaewon, so, from Suwon Main bus terminal at the train station, I took the slowest bus on earth to get to Seohyun. It took 2 hours and ten minutes. Is that an exception? Should I still take the bus? Maybe I took the wrong bus, but I asked the ladies at the tourist info office. |

I was about to ask about this as well. I went to the Itaewon tourist office, and they seemed to have no idea if or where I might be able to find one.
I did find a link to an online Seoul bus transportation site, but after about five minutes I realized it was crap.
So, I post this non-answer to move this string to the top.
Anyone?
Thanks in advance... |

The powers that be seem to reason that foreigners should use the subway so it's totally bi-lingual.
The buses are a mystery to most foreigners because there's so little English used by the bus companies. A little inconsistant. |

This information MUST be available somewhere even if only in Korean. Getting access to it is another matter. |

Yeah, and I found a link to a site that appears to supply this information, but when I tried to put in my route information it came back with no results. I KNOW there's an express bus from Itaewon to Bundang -- I've actually taken a regular bus from here to there -- but the site indicated that there was nothing.
Surely an English bus map must exist here, right? I'm not asking too much, am I? |

Express bundang-Seoul buses have been discussed here before. Do a search for it. |

I've asked a couple of Korean friends about it and they insist there is no such map in existance in either English or Korean. The only way they figure out the buses is to go to the closest stop and look at the little green maps posted there. It's seems like a grossly inefficient system to me. I've used buses on my own quite a few times and it's usually not too bad.....but it's certainly a 'hit and miss' game.
You're best off asking the driver if the bus goes where you want to go when you get on. It's easy to find the right bus but to catch it going in the wrong direction (away from your desired destination). I hear lots of Koreans asking the drivers the same thing when they get on the bus, so I guess it's normal. |

I've heard that not only is there a site but you can enter in TO and FROM info and it will give you the ESTIMATED TIME.
PLUS, I heard there is a web site too where people REVIEW a certain bus. It's sort of like SISKEL and EBERT, except with buses! |

Yeah, I think this was the site I was on, and while it appeared useful, it proved entirely useless.
I almost prefer the busses over the subway, as they're (usually) less crowded, and you get to look out windows, and the seats are (usually) more comfortable.
I just don't understand the absence of bus maps, but then again there are many things I don't understand about South Korea. |

been living here now for 2 weeks after 6 years in the hinterlands and we only took a bus the first nite we were here becauase we were staying in Yongsan and there was no subway from our hotel to Itaewon.
Since then its been nothing but subways. talked to people who've been here years and they never take the bus.
I too have also seen Koreans here asking bus drivers where does the bus go so there must not be map even in Korean |

The bus/subway route information site is at:
http://bus.seoul.go.kr/eng/index.asp
I've been playing around with it a bit tonight, and it's proven slightly useful. Lotsa Korean on it, which makes things difficult.
I just want to know the quickest way to get from Yongsan -- Haebongchong area -- to Samsung Plaza in Bundang. I've found some express busses, but they don't appear to stop near my area. I just want to walk to a bus stop, get on ONE bus, and get off at Samsung Plaza -- as opposed to taking the subway and changing lines twice. |
