With all this World Cup crap going on, I'm kinda blue about how ho hum MMA is among foreigners here. It's been a while since I've been able to go to a bar or a Dave & Buster's and watch a night of fights with people that care I guess I know how it feels to be a soccer fan back home...
In any case, I can't wait for these 2 upcoming events.
My picks for UFC 116:
Lesnar over Carwin -- Carwin throws BOMBS when he punches but I can't see him getting past Brock's superior wrestling and size. Carwin's GOING to get taken down early and get dominated from the top. He doesn't have the strength or the sweeps to get out. He has a puncher's chance and I'd say that's all.
Leben over Akiyama -- Unfortunately, Wandy is out of the fight due to an injury. Despite Leben being called in at the last minute, I think he has a key advantage in power. I'd say his take down defense is enough to thwart Sexyama's judo and both their chin's are granite. Leben has a granite-breaking left hand, though.
Soszynski over Bonnar -- To be honest, I feel like Bonnar is still only in the UFC because he's like best friends with Dana. I think Dana even said he'd never cut Forrest or Stephan. SOSZYNSKI
Sotiropoulos over Pellegrino -- Soutiropoulos is the man. I think this will be a chess match on the ground. It'll come down to Soutiropoulos pulling off a sub, imo.
Schaub over Tuchscherer
Reljic over Grove
Madsen over Vemola -- Madsen is training with Deathclutch. He must have a killer training camp right now with both him and Brock fighting. Can't train with much higher caliber wrestlers than there--especially with Randy's camp coming into for coop training. It'll be Vemola's debut--he's been untested so far against real competition. He's also from England, where wrestling sucks.
My picks for STRIKEFORCE/M-1 GLOBAL:
Fedor over Werdum -- with all the flack Fedor gets about ducking Ubereem and the UFC, he's still my P4P greatest fighter pick and GOAT. Werdum has world class BJJ, and possibly the best BJJ of any heavyweight in MMA, but Fedor's fought the likes of Big Nog as well. Fedor seems to be able to zoom in on any opportunities during fights and I wouldn't be (too) surprised if this ends in Werdum crumbling under a haymaker
Cyborg over Finney -- I think Cyborg will be too powerful for Finney--I mean, Finney's nickname is Cuddles...
Cung Le over Smith -- Until the knockout, Cung was getting the better of Mr. Steel Hands. I think it was a matter of ring rust that led Le to his first defeat. We'll see if Le's Hollywood aspirations cost him the fight or not |

Good picks, valid arguments.
However, you forgot to mention Cung Le's history in the Mortal Kombat tournament. He can throw fireballs and turn into a dragon and ****. |

Well it's tough because the fights come on at 10:30-11am on Sundays here. I end up just watching them in bed as I'm still recovering from Saturday night.
The last thing I want to do is head back to a bar first thing Sunday morning.
Good picks all around. I agree with all of them. Lesnar will use his superior wrestling to keep the fight on the ground. He will fight very smart and not try and do anything fancy to get knocked out.
Really sucks about Wandy having to pull out. He's one of my all time favorites. I know he is on the decline, but he brings it every time. |

Wow Wanderlei is out huh? That's twice that this scheduled matchup has been shelved, which stinks because I am a huge fan of Akiyama. I'm really looking forward to the Fedor/Werdum fight because I will be there at HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, USA! |

Bump. The great one just lost.
Amazing victory by Werdum. One mistake and it's all over. In a rematch, I cannot imagine Fedor being that aggressive again |

has it been confirmed that Akiyama will fight Leben? I remember reading that he would not accept the fight...
Fedor's fight was pretty bad. It was almost like he was giving the fight to Werdum, he walked right into that armbar, and when he was able to get out, he just gave himself to that triangle... it was like he was rocked and couldnt think... |

I'm surprised Fedor was that wreckless. He went into Chuck mode and ran straight into one of the best guards in the HW div. I was pretty pissed off that he just went and did that. During the post-fight interview, Fedor said his team and him need to analyze what went wrong... DUH! It seemed like such a rookie mistake. I'm still in shock. Well, congrats Vai Cavalo! |

credit where credit is due for Werdun. Clever game plan, perfectly executed. I don't see it working twice though |

Yeah, it was obvious he was never rocked--they even went over it during the post-fight replays. Vai was hit with some grazing shots. That's why I'm so shocked Fedor dove right in like that. He's usually a bit more patient but perhaps he jumped the gun a bit going for the quick finish in order to silence all the naysayers claiming he's lost "it". Or maybe he had a brain fart and thought he was fighting Zulu or HMC again |

I'm sure this is asked all the time, but can anyone recommend a good place in or around Seoul to watch 116 live? I realize they show them on TV, but I'd love to hit up a bar on Sunday morning with a bunch of other excited fans, especially with 추성훈 fighting. There's defo going to be some blood in that fight. I honestly think he might take Leben. Leben still seems so wild. We'll see.
Also excited to see if Brock can take down (likely) and hold down (more questionable) Carwin. I figure that fight is decided on those two factors. Go Carwin, and all that. |
