Korea plays Uruguay on Saturday, knockout game.

Predictions?

I think the road ends there for Korea. Uruguay played very well in the round robin stage. They are sound defensively and decent on the attack.

Korea will have to play better defensively if they want to have a shot.

I say Uruguay 2 Korea 1

Still a good run by the Taeguk Warriors.

Uruguay's midfielders aren't so hot but their defense is excellent and their two starting forwards Suarez and Forlan are great too. I'm going to say 2-0 Uruguay, but I also wouldn't be surprised if Korea gets a goal on a counter attack.

Yeah, sadly it's the end of the road for Korea, unless the Uruguay team revert back to type and starting kicking people not the ball, an early red card could make it interesting. 2-0 Uruguay

I agree, as much as I would like to see Korea go through, I doubt it will happen, but who knows? It's a tough one really, as I really like the way Uruguay has played and would like to see them do well, too, I mean, anything is better than the usual suspects winning, would rather have a lesser-known team/country do well for a change.

Or the death threats from the South American drug lords backing he Uruguay team....

As long as we are spouting off nasty stereotypes... Laughing

By the way WTP..I wonder how you figure this bribery thing works....I mean Korea is a reasonably wealthy nation but it sure is not that major a player in the Football world. One would think that the LG TV + car would pale in comparison to what other nations could offer up as a bribe to the Refs.

Think of the US for example...my lord they could offer far more!

The Swiss...they own the largest banks in the world....

Japan...2nd largest economy in the world...

Then the Italians...the Mafia!!!!!!!

When South Africa scored their first two goals against France yesterday, a lot of people here thought it must've been rigged (and these are local Saffers I'm talking about) - I honestly don't know what's worse, unnecessary pride in one's country or automatic pessimism when your country does well...

It was a sardonic reference to the rampant bribery that greases the wheels in this country. If you ever took off your rose colored glasses you could see that. Didn't you get kicked out of the country? I know that you messed things up so bad with the BMOE that you couldn't get a job there, Guilfoyle? Now, downtrodden and defeated, you seek restitution via the internet.

Which ever team wins will face either Ghana or the USA in the next match.
I'd love to see a USA vs Korea rematch, except this time a tie will not do.

They are in the Round of 16, Confucian. They probably won't make the final 8 though. Nigeria exposed the Korean defense over and over again in the second half. I didn't want to watch, but my neighbors above were bouncing like crazy and kept me up. Poor finishing was the difference. I think having players like Souza and Forlan will be a little different. I was reading about the team. They have some very good players. A step below Argentina, but so are most other teams.

2-1 Uruguay. I think the Koreans are going to get frustrated and start takning lots of long shots.

By the way, Korea's Elo rankiing is pretty high. I think these rankings seem to be more accurate than Fifa's. They're ranked #23, compared to #47 in Fifa. For perspective:
Argentina - 4 (7)
South Korea - 23 (47)
Greece - 34 (13)
Nigeria - 44 (21)

Uruguay is ranked #11 in Elo, 16 in Fifa. New Zealand is #60 and the USA is #21. Why don't people use these rankings more? The formula seems to be more accurate.

I don't think people take those rankings too seriously. I've never known Ireland's ranking.
