Here's an ad that makes a Libertarian cheer.
Only wish it was a Libertarian candidate running it.

A great example of ridiculous, incendiary rhetoric that is yet again attempting to cover up a total lack of real solutions to our society's problems through emotional, disingenuous appeal to the Constitution.
I especially like his talk about the health care bill. I don't particularly like that bill, but come on. "They force us to buy health insurance, or else!" Yeah, or else pay a small additional fine, structured as a tax, that is totally consistent with the Constitution. But that wouldn't enrage the tea-party rabble as effectively, would it? |

Perfect example of socialist logic.
There are only two possibilities in the end - Liberty or Statism.
There is no middle ground.

Talking to you is like talking to a religious fanatic. Seriously man, reading what you write about politics and economics is like reading what an extremist Muslim writes about religion.
Submit to pure Capitalism, trust blindly in it, or suffer the wrath of the "rEVOlution". |

Nope.
There are only two logically possible positions. No other possibilities exist. It is logically impossible.
Liberty or Statism contain all possibilities and there is no overlap. |

You call $3000/year a "small additional fine"??? If the tea tax was a legitimate cause for revolution, certainly this is, too (or at least repeal). |

The tea tax and this tax are completely different things. Like I said, I don't even support this bill, but it's very clearly constitutional. Anyone invoking the Constitution against this bill just plain doesn't understand the Constitution.
As far as repeal goes, the American people can repeal this bill at any time if they elect representatives to do so. Given the bill's popularity is increasing rather than decreasing according to polls, though, I doubt that will happen. |

I assume you two mean the Townshend Act, and not the Tea Act, since the latter did not impose a tax on tea. The salient aspects of the Townshend Act were:
(a) A Parliament imposed the taxes on 'Americans' who had no representation in Congress
(b) It enacted Writs of Assistance, which allowed British Customs officials to search for smuggled goods. The writs were permanent, transferable, and excused the inspector from damage caused to any goods. It basically put British customs officials above the law.
Townshend Act wrote: |
[T]he officers for collecting and managing his Majesty's revenue, and inspecting the plantation trade, in America, shall have the same powers and authorities to enter houses or warehouses, to search or seize goods prohibited to be imported or exported into or out of any of the said plantations, or for which any duties are payable, or ought to have been paid; and that the like assistance shall be given to the said officers in the execution of their office . . .
That from and after the said twentieth day of November, 1767, such writs of assistance, to authorize and impower the officers of his Majesty's customs to enter and go into any house, warehouse, shop, cellar, or other place, in the British colonies or plantations in America, to search for and seize prohibited and uncustomed goods, in the manner directed by the said recited acts, shall and may be granted by the said superior or supreme court of justice having jurisdiction within such colony or plantation respectively |

Oh, and by the way, the fact checking organization Politifact reviewed the political ad being praised in this thread. It gave it it's claim about the IRS lowest possible rating: pants on fire. Great political ad indeed, if you care more about ideology than fact and are comfortable with politicans attempting to deceive the public in hopes of winning votes. |

Fox, have you ever read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand?
If you read that you might understand why many people see taxes as legal theft backed by guns. If you can read that book and understand the arguments and still not change your world view I'll be impressed. Check out the audio book if you have spare time. |

Ayn Rand? Are you serious, or are you trolling me here?
To answer your question, no, Atlas Shrugged did not change my world view. |

Dead serious and I can assure you I don't have another account here. I used to browse the forum as an E2 working in Korea. I'm actually quite the fan of your posts and wondered how a guy like you ended up teaching in SK.
Can you elaborate then why you think Atlas shrugged is not relevant to the problems we have today? My impression is that you think it's mostly b.s. |
