It's been a helluva week so far at my work.

My coworker was subjected to the complaint that he stood up too much in class, followed by me getting complained about because my 'feet were too big', thus causing a hazard to children walking about...wtf?

Wow, both of those are impressive.

The most ridiculous complaint that I ever got was I was making my lowest level students write the ABCs at the beginning of every class. The logic was, as I was told, the mom sent the kid to the hogwan for fun and entertainment and if they needed to learn the ABCs they can practice at home.

This also marked the first time I caved on a ridiculous request. Upon hearing the words pour out of my CT's mouth I said . "Ok I will stop making students write the ABCs"

Roll with the punches man, just tell them that you'll need three months off after you chop your feet in half. Laughing

Not in my class, but during an open class a coworker had a mom come 20 minutes late, and then leave early to answer her phone. She complained that her daughter had nothing to do for 50 minutes. The open class was 40 minutes long.

Edit: And this was written on a comment sheet (in Korean, too), so it's not like she could have said 15 minutes and have it misheard as 50.

Having not meet the op, it could be a valid complaint. Op you don't happen to own a chain of hamburgers joints do you?

So were you approached in a serious manner about this "problem"? Was your co-worker?

I think it is the cycle that gets to me...

Mothers complain it is to boring - too much homework, and serious study. So teacher decides to play more cames try to make it more fun and down size the homework.

THEN

A month later the mothers complain that the students are playing games to much and need to study more - so teacher stops playing games so much or at all and gives more homework and tests....

THEN

you get the picture.

I think the other think about those complaints are is ONE parents complains which can be about something valid to them, to us is stupid BUT the hagwon or school then says to the NET that many or all parents are complaining. So then thinks have to change to suit one parent....

Korean mothers will want you to act like Isaac the idiot from Arirang

^ Not a newb here. I know how it goes. This thread is intended as a chance to share some of your more comical complaints. Surely you have one...

Thanks, but actual advice isn't warranted.

"There is too much water on your body. Can you please stop sweating."
This was made by a third grade high school teacher whose main job was to prepare students for University entrance exams.

It wasn't from a mother but a guy I know claims that his co-teacher complained about his ample manhood being rather too apparent and that he should try to arrange things in a more appropriate configuration. More like Ken, less like Robert Plant.

It wasn't a mother but rather a co-teacher with the silliest complaint.

Co-teacher: "A student complained about your camp class."

TheUrbanMyth: "Who?"

Co-teacher: "Kim Junior" *

TUM: (picks up attendance book and checks the student's name): "He didn't attend the class a single day. What is he complaining about?"

Co-teacher: Um, ah oh well ahh...".

TUM: "If they don't attend they don't get to complain. Nobody else had a problem."

Co-teacher "Oh Lee Junior * had a problem too."

TUM: (Checks book again). "He never showed up either. Anyone else?"

Co-teacher: "No...you should make your class more interesting."

TUM: "Seeing as how the students who actually attended didn't have a problem...that's a negative."

*names changed to protect the guilty.

Not from a parent, KET. I shortened it, usually takes a while to figure out what they're talking about.

KET: "Do you know Philippines?"

Me: "Yes I know the Philippines"

KET: "Why is it Philippines and not Philippin?"

Me: "What the hell are you talking about?"

KET: "Why is there an s?"

Me: "You've got to be kidding me"

KET: "Yes why is it Philippines and not Philippin?"

Me: "Because god made it that way."

This doesn't seem like a complaint, and is actually a fairly reasonable question about English usage. Terms like "the Philippines" (in reference to what were previously called the Philippine Islands) and "the Americas" (in reference to the two American continents) might be slightly confusing to a non-native speaker.
