Hey everyone

I'm looking to purchase an omega planet ocean 42" watch.

Back in Canada I used websites like timezone and watchuseek but would like to know what my options are in Seoul. Jomastop and amazon would be my last option. I'd prefer to buy it used in the second market. And let's face it the brand name malls here are outrageously priced compared to back home with respect to nice watches.

If you can share anything I would appreciate it. Money is not an issue. I'm just looking to get a great deal.

Thanks

Try going to the second-hand shops around Apgujeong and Rodeo Street. They sell a lot of designer brands (usually bags and clothing, but some sell watches). You may have to check a lot of stores to see if they have what you want. As they are more like consignment stores, you may be able to bargain.

There is also a consignment store near Nonhyeon that sells a lot of watches. Go out exit 3, walk a little ways and the store is on your right.

And the stores are looking for a great steal, as in steal your dough with fakes. Korea is NOTORIOUS for fake watches.

Nice, thanks. I'm getting a strange feeling that I'll end up buying it when I get time off work. Perhaps when I visit North America or perhaps when I go to Jeju-do I'll check out the duty free shops before I go.

If you look closely at the photo, it's a Seamaster. Anyway, it's going to cost you a bit more in Korea, so be prepared. My Rolex cost me about 1000 USD more in Korea than I would've paid for it back home.

Korea is one sketchy country to be buying an expensive watch, stick with the department stores, no fake watches there.

What photo? I'm looking at the OP saying he wants to buy a 42" watch! No wonder they call it a planet ocean!

According to Amazon.com, people who bought that watch also bought THIS!!!

Slippery slope my friend, a slippery slope indeed.

Be careful about buying at a Korean duty free shop. If you return to Korea, you'll have to declare the watch. Or you'll pay a massive fine and it might be confiscated.

Just buy it abroad.

I learned Korean Economics 101 awhile ago. Earn here, be baffled by the high prices, spend your earnings in another country.

Of course you're supposed to declare it, but why would you? The same would apply to any country.

Do you think all of the women who buy bags worth thousands of dollars on their way out of Incheon declare them when they come back?

OP I think you are going to have to go to the expensive exclusive stores (like Shinsagae) that sell brand new watches, or you're going to end out getting ripped off with a fake.

The Walker Hill Duty-free mall has several very nice watch shops.

I agree with the poster who said to buy things outside of Korea if at all possible. Singapore or Hong Kong would be good possiblities other than the U.S.

Or save money by buying a fake. No one in Korea would be able to spot the difference.

Thanks guys.

My mistake on the diameter of the watch. I meant 42mm.

Here's an update. I went to shinsegae and checked out rolex explored II and the planet ocean with very little expectation to buy it there. Another avenue would be to buy it from eBay (they actually have insurance) or timezone and get it shipped to my family in the US. I would then ask friends or relatives who visit the states to pick it up for me. Or i'd pick it up when I visit.

The prices at variety watches are attractive. Are there any issues or concerns with this supplier?

Thanks
