Indeed. I also forgot to mention late 80s Voivod. Not particularly evil but moody.

Nice doom list! You left out Trouble and Pentagram though, even Cirith Ungol I'd say.

Speaking of Noise Records artists, I just heard Coroner is reforming to play at Hellfest. You ever heard Watchtower? First tech-thrash band, first two albums were amazingly good, obviously a huge influence for Atheist and Cynic.

On a side note, for all you Maiden fans out there, there is actually an American equivalent, any tr00 metalhead will know them, but for those of you that don't, check out Manilla Road. Brilliant and classic really.

I checked out a few songs off of youtube. Not bad, but I don't really like their solos. Thanks for posting, though.

Gwaha! It's tough finding other metal heads here. tougher finding shows to go to. You folks in Seoul would do well to look up GORMANTIUS (I think that the name) not very musical, sort of like Abruptum. But, it is Korean dudes doing KVLT, non-symphonic metal. I know a couple of guys here in Busan who mainly play wank guitar, definitely talented, but not my style.

herE is a link for some of the hits I've found recently. And the oldies that I keep coming back to. Some underground stuff, some bigname, really stellar black metal.

http://www.mediafire.com/?jzmra0d5and

Standouts are: Dodheimsgard's Monumental Possession. three singers. Before they got all industrial. one of the best TROO KVLT albums (IMHO). Cant go wrong with Satyricon. Or Gorgoroth with Frost on drums. on the KVLTer side. Cruor Cultum is probably my favorite unknown band. 1 album. Two huge fat dudes in spikes. from Brazil. Gospel of the Horns has some famous dudes in it. get drunka dn fight! Manes are mysterious. War is a racist band, and you really have to dissociate that from their music and just feel the highschool vibe. The band was formed to raise money to pay an inmate in Varg Vikernes jail to shank that bastard. He had already made all his good music so, no loss... if you don't laugh when you hear Impaled Nazarene's Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz you have no sense of humor.

I listen to mainly one-man, underground nowadays, and forgotten legends. A wonderful blog is COSMIC HEARSE. Google that on Youtube.

Dodheimsgard is horrid, sorry, I understand that they want to be different, but rather go the Carpathian Forest route for that instead of whatever they were trying to do with that quasi-industrial nonsense.

And yes, you can go wrong with Satyricon, have you heard their last three albums? Utter tosh, black 'n roll my ass.

Gorgoroth (whom I already mentioned) are good for their first three albums only, and nothing else.

You want awesome black metal? Check out Romania's Negura Bunget, start with 'Om', then their albums after that, you won't be disappointed.

But yeah, cool, you like bedroom black metal (one man bands), I just got a demo from a one woman BM band in Japan, if it's any good will let you fellas know about it (although I doubt it, but still).

Napalm Death-Harmony Corruption

Pungent Stench-Been Caught Buttering

Some good albums there (Pungent Stench) and some WTF albums (Wolverine Blues? Ya gots to be kidding me! Over Clandestine???) - you have weird taste in old-school death metal, and what, no Demilich? For shame!

Ironically my local college radio station at 88.3 on the dial had a black/death metal show that played on Friday nights hosted by a Korean-American kid.

My 'random metal tracks' file on my MP3 includes:

Angra, Carry On

I recall this being by far the best track by the Brazilian prog-metallers

Labyrinth, Rusty Nail

On this evidence, this Italian group might be worth looking at in more detail

Opeth, The Moor

I don't particularly like the album that this is from, but this may be my favorite Opeth song

Epica, Chasing the Dragon

The first three minutes are probably the best piece of music ever written. What follows doesn't impress me much, but an essential track and probably their best

Orphaned Land, Birth of the Three (The Unification)

This Israeli metal band might well be the best on the planet, as this song clearly suggests

Death, Secret Face

Their best track, if you ask me

RIP Chuck Schuldiner

Type O Negative, White Slavery

Slow, distorted, crushingly heavy and can only be described as doom metal

RIP Peter Steele

Spirit Caravan, Dreamwheel

So called stoner rock, but this could be a Black Sabbath song

Mezarkabul, Time

Very credible instrumental from the Turks

Godflesh, Jesu

Stunning. This song has two parts, with one minute of silence separating them. Both are independently good. Really, you might want to just get the album, Hymns

Carnivore, Jesus Hitler

Get this album, Retaliation

Amorphis, Drowned Maid

Melodic death metal, courtesy of Finland
