|
|
Hello,
I have to let my new employer know if I want to change to an E1 visa for the fall. In my current job, I have an E2 visa.
It is more of a hassle for me to change--I have to resubmit a bunch of documents and do a couple of new bureacratic things whereas with the E2, I would just apply for a change of employer--everything else would be taken care of by my employer.
Are there any real differences between the E1 and the E2? All I can find is that there may be more "status" with the E1 visa, but are there any other differences? Is it NOT true that with an E1 visa, you can do outside work? |

You can get outside work on an E2 visa if you get permission. An E1 visa doesn't give you that extra benefit without permission.
Just keep your E2... there's no real difference. I think that's why there haven't been any replies so far. |

thanks a lot...
That was the information I found on the formal websites about visas, but I wanted to confirm it before I told the school my preference. |

Never had an E1 visa but do you have to go through the whole CBC etc...that you have to do on an E2. I thought that might be an advantage. |

I think you're not required to do the drug/medical tests on an E1, but I'm not sure. |

there are some camps that only want to hire E1s because they know E2s need permission and allegedly it's not a big deal for the E1 because they generally teach at unis and have a lot of time off, bosses look the other way, etc. etc. |

Thanks all who posted--much appreciated~
I decided to just stick with the E2 because I have so many other things to deal with right now and it's just less work, and none of the possible differences were really motivators for me. |
