England seem to be totally vulnerable to German counter attacks which have left goalie James with zero chance.
Btw surely its time to pull Rooney off? seems to be suffering from stage fright. |

Rooney has been off this World Cup, but he's not overrated. 4 World Cup games at the end of the day are just 4 games on a slightly lower level than the Champion's League.
England need to blow this team up and accept a few hard truths. |

I actually think all English players are over-rated.
The BBC commentators were constantly going on about how the English players would play like piss WC and then go back to the English PL to rip it up. Maybe they rip it up in the PL because they are backed by talent THAT IS NOT ENGLISH. There is really no other explanation. Their players aren't good enough to compete with the likes of Germany, Argentina, Brasil etc.
It isn't a lack of effort, a new football or just bad luck every WC. It doesn't matter if we are talking about results, or on paper, or the skill of each individual player, England is not a tier one team and never were. Considering how much football means to England culturally, they are absolutely rubbish at it and if I were an English person I would be pissed.
Its like a country like Canada losing every international ice hockey tournament (bowing out in the group/quarters) even though ice hockey is completely integrated in their culture. There would be no excuse for Canada not to win Olympic gold medals etc and I would guess that Canadians would be outraged if Canada sucked so much as England does at football.
Back to the game, Germany outclassed the English side on every level. The Lampard goal was unfortunate and does nothing but put the spotlight on Septic Bladder and his stupid decision to not allow goal line technology.
However, Lampard goal or no, England got pounded and Germany rightfully deserves to go through. I actually feel badly for English fans. They deserve better than this. |

I'm not sure thats how the world sees it though. Players should view WC as the highlight of their careers. Hundreds of millions more people watch the WC than do the champions league.

In comparison to Klose for example...Rooney apparently has no pace, does not know how or where to pass, cannot take a corner when required, and falls over to try and win free kicks rather than making opportunities. |

The thing is, most English football teams are made up of foreign players. Look at Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd etc...who make up the majority? Oh right - foreigners! *British* football players have always been ****. Back in the 70's they were ****. Now in 2010, they are still ****. Why are people so suprised they were hammered by Germany? I personally don't even look at England during their World Cup or Euro games, because I already know they will suck. But I like watching premier league games and whatnot, because that's when they excel. |

The World Cup is very important but the Champion's League has better teams.
At the end of the day though, it is 4 games. You can't judge players by such a small sample. Rooney has played scores of champion's leagues games and hundreds of premier league games. We have a very large sample that says he is not overrated.
Klose is a bit of an enigma. He is way better in international football than club football. Talent wise though he is an excellent player. |

I don't buy the, 'they are only good because they are backed by foreigners' theory.
First of all, how many world class players do England really have? Gerrard, Ashley Cole and Rooney are the only ones that spring to mind. These three like all players need a certain type of player around them to succeed.
It's not that England lack some great players, it is they lack a certain type of player. They don't have any world class defensive midfielders and only one good deep lying playmaker(in my lifetime!!). In Carrick, they have produced exactly one player who can pass in midfield. They rarely produce players who can unlock a defense and if they do, they don't play. They don't seem to produce ball playing defenders. They don't blood players quickly enough for my liking. They over emphasise speed, strength and directness over technique so when it comes down to it, they get passed to death.
Gerrard for example, would be a game changer for a team like Spain. Spain doesn't produce players like Gerrard and his directness and barnstorming runs would be great for them. Luckily for Spain though they produce player after player with extreme technical ability. England's problem is that they lack the players to give a player like Gerrard a platform.
England needs to completely change the way they develop young players. You can't win a world cup if you can't pass. They need to develop more specialised midfielders and everybody needs to be able to keep and pass the ball. Time to stop producing so many David Platts, Bobby Robsons, Steve Gerrards and start producing some makeleles and xavis.
edit: huddlestone from spurs is a good example of this. Maybe he isn't good enough for international level but he is a rare breed in England. He needs to be playing for England regularly to find out what he's got. Carrick should have played every game of the world cup. |

Nope, you certainly can't, can you? And, the "fatherland" of football as well.
It's true, the U.S. is a mere adolescent compared to so many other teams, but I felt like I was finally watching some football grownups tonight in the Germans. They are FEARSOME!
I do feel bad about the Lampard diallowed goal, though. But, that certainly wasn't enough to save them.
I can't wait to see who they go up against next!
edit: Go Mexico! Trying to stay up. |

Why? Did Rooney kick your dog? Did James Milner make a pass at your sister? What could they possibly have done to warrant such abuse? |

I'm back home for the world cup and Heathrow is 15 minutes away, I can't even muster the enthusiasm to pop down and berate them. What's the point? They'll be back for a few days and then off to Dubai to play golf and spend their money. Absolute tossers. Oh sky sports news showed them getting off the plane and onto a coach approx 4 hours after the game had finished, lovely to see Upson, Barry, Wright-phillips and Cashley in such good spirits and having a laugh. |
