I lived in Charlotte for a year. It's a center for banking, so I guess bankers are manly. Not sure what else about it is that special. |
You're forgetting about NASCAR, which probably plays a huge role in their ranking. |

Yeah, that does make more sense in light of that. Went once, and if being a redneck is manly, well it was very manly. |

Yeah, how do they define "manly" anyway?
That term can mean 100 different things depending on culture, social-economic class, etc.... |

I'm from an hour north of Miami and we appear to be almost as bad off as the Portland folks. I wonder if the people who put together the rankings took into consideration the difference between the men in this area with or without their Viagra. |

| My hometown is near Charlotte. What defines the 'manliness' of a city? |

Criteria for manlyness:
The COMBOS Americas Manliest Cities study ranks 50 major metropolitan areas, using manly criteria like the number of home improvement stores, sports teams, steak houses, pickup trucks and motorcycles per capita. manly occupations (fire fighters, police officers, construction workers and EMT personnel), and consumption of salty snacks.
Why is Charlotte, NC number 1?
Charlotte, N.C. now has chief bragging rights on manliness thanks to its top 10 rankings in the sports, manly lifestyle, manly retail stores, manly occupations and salty snack sales categories. |

if manliness is so great why the need to emphasize it?
You'd think that if it was true it wouldn't even have to be talked about. |

I wonder what the correlation is between manliness and poor health. |

On a separate note. Doesn't Baltimore have one of the highest murder
rate in the US? And Chicago had 56 killed last weekend? |
