A question for all you in the public sector. My husband and I have public school jobs and we've been informed that we have to attend a full-day workshop next Tuesday. Are these workshops paid? I can't seem to find much information about it. My situation is a bit different-- my husband has already started his job and has been there for several weeks now, but my contract doesn't start until mid-July, e.g. after the workshop. My husband assumes he will be paid like any other day plus a little overtime because it runs into the evening, but will I be paid for this? |

You are being paid to be at school. What's the difference if you are at a workshop? |

Ok seriously, please read the whole post before you reply.
I am not being paid to be at school yet. My contract hasn't started and won't start until a week afterwards. See above ^^ |

Your husband will get his regular pay through the school, but I highly doubt he'll get overtime for this. These things rarely go past 3pm, and if they did, they'll probably throw in dinner for free, but no money.
As for you, if you haven't started work yet, that means you have no idea who your co-teachers are. So nobody told you or can take you there. So you don't have to go. The workshop probably isn't expecting you anyways, since they have no work information on you yet. |
