I got a Kombucha SCOBY starter kit from this website.
http://www.culturesforhealth.com/splash.php
The kit was about $36 to send over here; included a dehydrated SCOBY, kitchen strainers, instructions, a couple packs of Oolong tea.
If you buy some cheap black tea from the corner store and some organic sugar, it's like 3,000 Won/Gallon of Kombucha. Pretty good deal considering that store bought Kombucha in the states is like $3/bottle.
Also, the customer service I've been getting from the site has been outstanding. One thing to be careful of is that since it's a dehydrated SCOBY, your first batch will take a full 21 days to ferment as opposed to seven or so. |

Excellent.
I have been meaning to ask if kombucha was available in Korea. I have looked around but have never seen it.
Strangely there is a story that it was named after a Korean man who gave it to a Japanese emperor (?).
I would have thought Koreans would be all over it, but no apparently. |

Outstanding! Thanks for the info. I drank the stuff for a few years instead of coffee and found my energy and alertness and over all health was so much higher back then. Placebo or not, I swear by G.T. Dave's.
I've really been missing in the last two years and change that I've been here. 감사합니다!

I love the stuff. I'm afraid I would poison myself if I made it at home. Do you know if that happens easily? Death, I mean. |

The only remote way you'd die is if you put the Kombucha into a lead-lined jar to ferment.
Otherwise, it's like beer; anything that makes it "bad" can't hurt you other than having a horrible taste and smell. |

No way; I definitely don't believe Kombucha is a placebo. At the moment I'm having a Herxheimer reaction, which means that there's quite a change happening in my gut. At the same time, I doubt it cures anything other than bacterial overgrowths (which in and of themsevles can cause problems). Otherwise, it's a preventative, and it's got enough B-complex to enhance your mood. There simply aren't enough studies on Kombucha even though it's got the hallmarks of a very good probiotic drink. |
