Thank you!

That really depends on you, doesn't it?

If you're in love with the beach, by all means shoot for Busan. However, while Busan is a little bigger (and more expensive) than Daegu, the things to see/do are a lot more spread out. Daegu is more centralized.
How much do you plan to travel around Korea? Busan is a little more isolated on the coast, while Daegu is more towards the center of Korea and a quicker trip to anywhere.
How particular are you about your job? Busan is a very competitive market.
I think you need to provide a little more info about what you're looking for before you can make this decision.

well I would be starting my first year in Korea. I'm interested in a large city with lots of culture, sights to see/explore, great infrastructure, subway/public transit, stuff to do, stores, supermarkets, etc.

If those are your only requirements, you can't go wrong with either city.

And disgustingly hot in the summer.

Busan is nicer, but the areas worth visiting are spread out. Daegu is much more centralized, but is limited in terms of interesting areas. Daegu is also in a great location for seeing the rest of the country if you plan on doing a lot of weekend trips. If I was in your position, I would probably choose Busan. The summer/warm season is long in Korea and living in a big coastal city is awesome during that time.

Any reason why you're ruling out Seoul? The things you want are much more abundant there.

I thought Seoul being 10 million + people may be abit too big, polluted, difficult to make new friends, too fast paced of life, it might be too much of the rat race/move or be moved

In terms of culture, is there more in Daegu?

I lived in Daegu for 1.5 years and have never lived in Busan, but visited it on several occasions. My vote would be with Busan. It's bigger, more to explore / see / do. A bit further from Seoul, and not as central as Daegu, but no big deal... Daegu is only 1 hour by subway. I find that Busan has everything that Daegu has, but the opposite is not true. Daegu lacks a beach... the beach is nice especially in October, during the film festival.

Go with Busan! Wink

Is this from the perspective of a native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada or Capetown, South Africa?

I like visiting Busan, good enough for me. Same with Seoul. As for Daegu, been here for a good bit now. It has gotten much better over the years.
My take, if you want to make friends, I would imagine Daegu is easier. The city has a lot going on in its waygook community. Sports leagues, language groups, reading clubs, theater groups. Some of that stuff I am into, some I am not. But the point being, the option is there.

Daegu is not the biggest city and I think that is what makes it better than Seoul and Busan. Tighter community. So if making friends are important to you, I would say Daegu is your easiest way to go about it.

Good luck in your choices.
