|
|
Is finding a bank that does a money transfer over the internet in Korea asking too much?
Right now I have Woori bank and since I work at a public school I cannot make it to the bank before it closes. Also, my school won't let me go during my lunch break because apparently lunch time isn't free time in Korea, although it's perfectly fine to take a nap on your desk.
They want me to use vacation time to go to the bank. Which won't be happening. |

KEB does international bank transfers online.
You just need to sign up for a bank account and bring in the information for the bank account you will transfer to overseas as well.
Information for other bank account needed:
Bank name
Bank address
Routing Number
Account Number |

you can do it with Woori. I'm also at a public school and with Woori. You do have to get it set up at the bank. Maybe it can be done over the phone, but talk to your coteacher and get their assistance. You'll create a login and then you can get your online international transfer set up. From there on, it's just a matter of doing it from work, which I do every month. |

I do international transfers (wire) with Woori. Just have to go to the bank one time to 1)set up online and 2)setup your account for online international wires. |

NongHyup does online money transfers. Only up to $1000 at a time though, otherwise you have to go in person to the bank.
Sounds like your school is run by a jerk...sorry to hear. |

Only $1000 a pop?! They must make a killing on transfer fees. Sounds like your bank is run by a jerk. |

Yes its quite possible.
I use KB bank(Kookmin) and make transfers via ATMs all the time. To set this up, you will need to go into the bank during business hours, ask for "registered overseas remittance", but after that you're all set to go.
The best part is the fee is only 5,000 won. If you do an overseas remittance in person, it is about 15,000. They make it cheaper for you because its less paperwork. You can send up to $6,000 USD each time.
The wire will end up in your account the next business day at home. So if you you go to an ATM at 9PM in Korea, it actually wont get sent from Korea until the open of business on the next business day. So if you do it during the week, its only about a day. Weekends, it will be a few days. |

I do online transfers with IBK in English, not that I recommend it. Woori, Shinhan and KEB are better from what I've heard. |

First of all, it sound like your schools are being unreasonable sh!t he@ds! Secondly, if you have debts in your home country, how are you to pay them every month? You're not gauranteed vacation days every month and when it does happen, banks are usually closed too.
Your schools are not being rational. Write down and explain your debts and responsibilities. Make a clear case. Ask Koreans what would happen to them if they didn't pay their bills every month. Put it in writing and submit copies to your teacher, principle, local education office contact. Then, once a month, you leave early or go during lunch hour. Be forceful and don't take no for an answer. Just go.
I had to fight and argue a year ago with my local supervisor over the issue. I don't think these people understand that we have debts to pay and banks close during school hours. Once a month bills must be paid. As for olidays, banks close too. My loans, credit cards, require payments every month. Letting it pile up and paying twice a year during school vacation gets me a lot of interest, a lot of legal troubles, and cards being cancelled. You have tyo rationally explain your case. It's difficult to argue with these people. Put it in writing and tell them you must go once a month. Also, every teacher should email EPIK and complain about this issue. |

Are there any banks in Korea where you can do international bank transfers online without having to supply this information in advance? |

How much does KEB and Woori charge in transfer fees?
Also, does KB allow online international transfers at 5K krw (technically, no paperwork)?
Thanks! |
