If I want to use my HD TV as a monitor, do I simply need an HDMI cable to go from the laptop to the TV?

How far from the TV (mine is 47") do you have to be not to feel too close to it while using it as a monitor? I know this one is probably more according to each one's feelings rather than a scientific fact, but I'd like to get an idea anyway.

Yeah, the HDMI will be fine. Then just function F4 or whatever combination your require, and you're done.

Right now, I'm typing this while sitting about 9 feet away from the monitor. Mine's a 42inch and the size is perfect.

Sometimes I sit closer... but I wouldn't want to sit further because I prefer having the screen large.

Hi

It seems that my TV may be too old for a media player that I know works in Korea - so I have decided to get a lead to hook up my laptop to the TV until I can afford a new TV.

I bought a lead from Home Direct but unfortunately I forgot that my new laptop doesnt use the round pin (I think it is called S-video) but uses a 15 pin port.

My question is - would purchasing something like this mean I would be able to put my new lead into my laptop ?
and if so - is this something that is easy to get ?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/VGA-to-S-Video-RCA-Adaptor/dp/B000P3UB24/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

or would I just be able to buy a new lead that will hook up my laptop to the old tv ?

and while I am at it - when I do get a new TV - what lead do I need to get to hook up to the laptop - I have an HDMI port

thanks a lot

Ed,

This is what you need. I've been all through this and never had a problem with this set up. Also handy for your laptop and running to another etc....
