Forget your preconceptions of cash presents. It's what they all want and expect. Just put 50,000 in an envelope and bring your appetite for the buffet. Every wedding I go to, I try to recoup the cash by eating as much meat as possible.

Not sure, but I think it'd be pretty weird to bring a gift up to the desk where they are collecting and marking the cash-filled envelopes.

Is that ever done?

Cash is expected. 50'000 is for a closer friend. 30'000 is fine if you are an acquaintance.

I hate wedding season in Korea. It costs me a small fortune because my missus has a lot of friends and a huge family. Friends cost 100,000 each, and family is 150+. On the bright side, I get to eat a lot of buffets.

If you're handing that out every wedding, you're being ripped off. Absolute closest friends maybe get 100k, that seems more like a family number to me. 150k for family is just greedy family, or your missus trying to get you to show off. The cash gifts are to recoup some of the wedding costs, not to make a profit.

I put 50K in one of those cutesy decorative envelopes with a note and received compliments.
There's tons of wedding money envelopes at just about any stationary store that include a paper for any personalized messages.

Maybe she's got a skimming operation going on.

A camera and an envelope with cash. If the teacher isn't an english teacher or someone you aren't close to I'd say 30,000 or 50,000 is enough. If it's someone important, then 50,000 to 100,000. Don't give 40,000 or 80,000 since one has a 4 and the other is double of 4.

Yes. Cash.

Odd numbers up to 90,000- then 100,000 only if this person is your most favorite in the whole wide world.

I took a present to a friend's wedding here (because I knew her back home) and she was cool with it. Others- maybe not...

Went to one for my wife's work and study mate. 50000won in an envelope. Stood politely at the back trying not to laugh that I was only half right about the special effects. They had a bubble machine but no dry ice.

Plates of shrimp etc, sujonggwa, then home again. Done it too many times to count.
