Hi there

Forgive me if this has been answered before but I couldn't find the information I was looking for.

After 5 years in London I would like to return to Korea as an ESL teacher again (I was previously there for two years).

However the E2 process has somewhat changed since the last time I was there, and I'm a little confused about the Criminal Background Check I need to apply for from the UK. After having a look around the internet the information I found says I need to get a Subject Access Permission certificate which seems pretty straight forward. However, contradicting information I have found says the certificate should cost �37, and the Subject Access Permission certificate only costs �10. Looking at the site - http://www.met.police.uk/information/forms/3019.pdf - there is another certificate called the ACRO which it states is required for those applying for a visa for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and United States of America. I know South Korea isn't listed here, but the cost of this certficate is �35 which seems to match the price of what I have read I should be paying for a CRC. So I'm confused as to which one I'm supposed to get. Can anyone tell me which one is the correct one?

Also, how many sets of transcripts do I need? - some sites say two and some three!

You can use two different types of criminal background check. The first is the Basic Disclosure - http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/ This is, as I recall, about 23 pounds or so. As I recall, they say it can take up to two weeks to deliver. I got mine within less than a week (ordered it on the Monday, it arrived on Thursday or Friday).

The other is the Subject Access Request Form. You get this from your local police station. It costs about 10 pounds. This, apparently, can take up to 40 days.

You need at least two transcripts. It's probably better to get a few.

I think that there are different types of criminal record checks for different parts of the UK. In Scotland, for example, we can use the Basic Disclosure Check which is issued by Disclosure Scotland. England, which I am guessing where you are from based on your user info, might be different.

Either way, the most basic of checks may be all that is required (though you may want to clarify this).

Transcripts= the more the merrier but definetely more than two to be on the safe side. I hear that they are required to be no more than 3 months old.

I applied this time last year.

I obtained a subject access form from West Midlands Police (my local constabulary) took about 2 weeks, cost a tenner and was sufficient for the visa. Good luck.
