Last Friday my co-teacher somewhat manipulatively invited herself and the other members of my workshop over for coffee at my place tomorrow. This is not the first time she has attempted this, and although I managed to get out of it the first time and thought she had since forgot about it, apparently she has not. I'm wondering if there is any possible way I can somewhat tactfully get out of this "obligation"? I mean back home, you simply do not TELL someone to host you and your friends for coffee/dinner/whatever on a date of YOUR choosing - at least not if you don't want to look really inconsiderate, right? I talked to various friends and colleagues about the situation (both Korean and foreign) and the overwhelming consensus was that this situation is pretty ridiculous/rude. Any input is greatly appreciated!
*btw for those wondering abt the manipulative part, she stuck in the 'coffee at my place' bit after a very lengthy invitation of her and the co-workers and I all going out for lunch. Similarly, last time around (read: after having been here all of 3 weeks), they took me out to lunch first, and THEN she tried to tell me to do the everybody-come-over thing (that time, in the form of a housewarming party) at the given date. Somehow defused that, but now here we are again...

is she hot?

if not, run with it and go the distance! Be super cheery and make it a potluck, and demand all the teachers have to bring something for it. I mean, if youre going to host it, they could pull some weight!

just try to be like Flo the progressive insurance lady when you do it, it's almost guaranteed to scare 'em off!

She probably has the hots for you if this is her second attempt to invite herself to your apartment. I wouldn't be surprised if she "accidentally" tells everyone else that it's on a different date.

How did she manage to invite herself over? Give us the full scoop, please.

Just say "No".

Pick up the phone tomorrow about 1 hour before the meeting time and say you are sick.

"Forget" about it and leave the apartment.

Be listening to loud music with your earphones on.

These are all things you can do (or say you did) to avoid this. (I prefer just saying "No".) Repeat/recycle as necessary. Eventually she will get the hint.

If she doesn't just sit her down and tactfully explain that your time off is your time off.

Ah hell, I can't help but join in on the voyeurism:

Is she hot, and are the other co-workers hot too? If yes to both, prep the video camera! Cool

"Sorry I'm very busy."

Always have some sort of plan to stay you've made in advance.

Get a pet that scares them. They'll never come over again. I got 2 rats. My coteacher hasn't been over since!
