Has anyone been or is anyone going to the Expo in Shanghai?
I'm thinking of using my vacation time to visit the Expo...but I'm having second thoughts because of the insane amount of visitors that are probably there right now.
Any one have any advice? |

I live in shanghai and think expo is a joke, but shanghai is cool and I have fun almost all the time just cruising around shanghai as there is people from every country here and it is a great party town. If you like looking at museums and stuff you will probably like expo, but I just find pics and stuff boring and lineups aren't my thing.
Shanghai is like one big expo all the time, but the expo site is just an overpriced money grab. |

I'm going to Shanghai and want to see the expo. My travel agent said that only the first 1500 or so people to arrive at the gate each morning gain access to the China exhibit. He advised to be there nearly 3 hours before the opening time to be able to be one of the first 1500 or so (sorry, I can't quite remember the exact number) and get a wristband.
Anyhow, I've never been to an expo so I'm kinda excited. I only have four days or so in Shanghai, can't plan too much around that. |

Dont even dream of getting into the China or Saudi pavillions unless standing in a line for 11 hours is your idea of a vacation. Many people like expo who choose to do the pavillions that are easy to get into. |

Yeah I had a long weekend in Shanghai a few weeks ago, and spent the Saturday afternoon at the Expo. I'm glad I went but it was indeed ridiculously overcrowded. I think about 500,000 people were there on that day alone!
I wanted to visit the Japanese pavilion but the queue was horrendous...maybe 4 hours at least. Like D.D. said, the Saudi pavilion had a queue of 11 hours...not sure why that one is so popular?
Anyway, I enjoyed going in some of the less popular pavilions and just walking around and seeing the buildings was enjoyable. |
