|
|
For those of you working in an after school program, I heard starting in the fall, they will lock the doors at 5PM for safety reasons. If your last class ends at 6, it'll have to be changed.
My school principal said the only option for the final class would be to move it to 8 AM.
Has anyone else heard about this or is this a cover story for my principal to kick us out?
The prinicpal is new, and is up in arms because the contract was made under the old principal.
If she kicks us out, then maybe she can get the 'deposit' money from the new after school company. That's my thinking. |

dealing with a new principal is like growing mushrooms.
"Feed 'em shit and keep 'em in the dark."
And thank you, Mark Wahlberg (and who thought they'd have to do that!)
this regular changing of principals can be the kiss of death for the ESL set...
they changed principals on me TWO months into my contract... the b*tch coteacher forgot to even mention this to me...
the new principal made sure to tell me in no-uncertain terms near her start at the school that she wanted a Gyopo....
soon it became like something out of OFFICE SPACE... so it wasn't a total wash... |

Tell your "after school company" what's happening, let them handle it.
I hope you can get this worked out without a confrontation. |

No idea about where you work, but where I am many elementary schools are tightening up big time on a number of safety/security procedures. So what you mention would strike me as perfectly feasible and not something to be especially suspicious of.
I'd suggest being wary of jumping to other conclusions too fast. |

Koreans are up in arms at the moment about sex crimes against children. There have been some highly publicized and very violent rapes of young girls recently, hence the new measures to protect kids.

My school's been pretty serious about the recent crimes(s) against young children. Added to the worry is that we have construction going on in the school and tons of "strange" construction workers on school property (not my word to decribe the construction workers). Heck, my school was even pushing to cancel every summer program at my school (even english camp!) As my luck would have it, every program at my school was canceled for the summer EXCEPT the english camp. Yay me. |

I'm in a high school, and around then they always lock the doors on one side, but leave the doors on the other side of the school unlocked. |

It's the usual thing in Korea. Something terrible happens which leads to a knee jerk reaction. A month later something else bad happens and everyone forgets about little kids getting raped. Security every has tightened up a bit.
The security guards at my kid's daycare actually do their job and ask people what they're doing. People are just doing what they can so they can say "look...we're doing something about this".
Give it a month or two and things will go back to normal. |
