|
|
Hi everyone,
I recently got a Korean Wii softmodded (Wiiflow).
The games that came with the hard drive seem to work fine. I tried adding a few games using WBFS Manager: MarioKart (NTSC), Smash Bros (PAL), New Super Mario Bros (PAL), Monster Hunter Tri (PAL), Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles (NTSC).
The success rate is very very low...
MarioKart: shows the warning first page to wear wrsit strap then crashes after
Smash Bros: Works fine from what I can tell, but black and white
New Super Mario Bros: Works fine 100%
Monster Hunter Tri: Freezes on black screen when selected
RE: Darkside Chronicles: freezes after 1st level with a constant beeeeeeeep
Is there something Im doing wrong? the FW is 4.2(KOR)...
thanks in advance for any help! |

Possibly need to update your cIOS. Get cIOS38 rev 17 and place it in a new folder in the apps folder on your SD media card. Then go to homebrew channel and launch. The simplest option is to do a network install, but if your machine isn't connected to the net you need place the cIOS WAD on the root directory of you SD card.

alright, I have spent all day working on this with no luck. Originally, I got a 160gb hard drive with the wii softmod/games and everything worked fine. And then I got it swapped for a 360gb and now im having a few probs...
first of all, when I click the homebrew channel, nothing comes up. I remember from the 160gb that there were apps I could select. As far as I can tell, the partitions are set up the same way and it should be working. But maybe theres a problem between the two partitions on my USB HD from communicating,,, because when I load of wiiflow, the covers arent there... but they are in fact in the same folder in the other partition. Any ideas what could be going wrong? I would just take it back but it is pretty far away...
I feel like I would have no problem updating the cIOS but im having so much trouble cause my apps wont come up in the homebrew channel
any thoughts Gaber? |

Thanks for the response Gaber. My hard drive is not on that list, so maybe that might be an issue, but seeing as how I was able to upgrade to cIOS38, I dont think its a HUGE problem right now. I bought a SD card, but my reader is busted so im waiting to get a new reader from Gmarket as we speak.
My next step will be to try Neogamma to load some games. Im a bit confused... Wiiflow is not a launcher but more like just an organizer? I saw USBloader in the folders, so is that my launcher and wiiflow just puts it into a ipod like flowing setting?
I find it hard to believe its just the loader seeing as how ive had very very little success with games ive added. Ive added 13 games, and only 4 work.... something is definitely off right? Ive even tried several different copies of MarioKart and no luck...
I will def try with Neogamma when my reader comes in te mail, but any other suggestions while I wait? |

Hi Gaber,
well I got my SD card reader in the mail and put all my folders into an SD card and then into my wii. So the homebrew channel is working the way it should,.. and I tried using Neogamma to load games, but im still having torubles with all the ones that didnt work before. Do you have any ideas what else it could be?
is it a korean wii issue? I cant load mario party, mario kart, monster hunter tri, world cup 2010, big brain academy.... thats seems like a really really low success rate. But the weird thing is that all te games that came with the HD seem to work relatively well... |

There might be issues with those particular games. If you Google the game name and "trouble running off usb" or some such, you might find that you need to use a certain cIOS for them. |

Sorry, I'm not sure about Korean Wii specific issues - I have a NZ one.
It may be the problem.
If you don't have the net you need two files to update your cIOS - an installer file, which is a boot.dol that you put in a new folder in the apps folder on your SD card, and a second WAD file that has the actually data which goes on the root directory of your card. These WAD files can be hard to find as some homebrew forums don't allow posting of links to them, Id guess cause they may include reverse engineered code.
That mario cart isn't loading seems odd, that game is old and popular and any loader should handle it.
Which games came included on your hard drive? Were they korean versions?
Also, when you have neogamma open, what does it say in the bottom bar? (The area I have boxed in red)

my experience with your problems:
smash bros: black and white screen indicates it's running in pal mode. either try to force NTSC in the settings or download an ntsc version of the game.
monster hunter tri: currently this only works with cios rev 19. HOWEVER if you use this CIOS, triiforce will no longer work (which a lot of people like for playing wiiware games like mega man 9 or world of goo off an sd card). they are working on rev 20 which should be compatible with triiforce. |

If I have the internet, dont I still need to download the cIOS and put it in my apps folder? but not the WAD right? maybe i'll try to steal someones wifi and hope it doesnt go out lol
The HD came with a bunch of games, maybe a hundred... i'd say about 15-20 were Korea. Stupidly expecting everything to work out, the first thing I did was delete all the Korean games. I wish I hadnt deleted MarioKart. Does anyone know where I could download Korean version Wii games?
As for Neogamma, it says "NeoGamma R8, IOS249 (Rev 17) |

Yep that's correct, the homebrew channel app is just a little downloader/installer for the real data, so if you can get some wifi you can update without tracking down the WAD file.
the Neogamma thing means your as up to date as I am... not sure what the problem is... hmmmm
Apparently lots of people are having issues with Monster Hunter Tri.
Do you know what brand the harddrive they gave you is? Also, there is an option of using IOS222 or 223, which I think involves plugging into the Wii's other USB port. You probably can select it in Neogamma already. Can't test it right now as I'm at work. It might help? |

Monster Hunter Trii absolutely requires CIOS rev19. There are specific instructions if you search - best to install it with an autoinstaller you can DL and follow the instructions. You also have to load from a specific IOS. I don't understand what any of that means but I followed the steps and it worked.
However, my Triiforce doesn't work anymore. So if you use that, be prepared to lose it. Otherwise I'm at full compatibility with all of my wii games except Samurai Warriors 3 (which I think i'll have to wait for the ntsc release to get it to work)
BTW, gotta love the world of modded consoles. Had a modded original xbox before this. Spend more time tinkering with it than playing the games. |
