wow thanks for all the information..i appreciate your help!
i have been considering applying for the visa but is there a time limit you have to get the visa in? like if i got my visa now would i need to go to china within a month or something? i don't know whether to sort out immigration first or the visa first. i just don't wanna be stuck in some airport somewhere without the right documents or whatever.
i am in touch with immigration about it so i hope i can figure something out! |
They have a 90 day validity (enter within 90 days from date of issue). |

I just got back from xanadu travel in Itaewon who said that I can't get a visa as I don't have 6 months on my ARC. I'm supposed to go to China on the 22nd July, come back to Korea on the 1st August then leave Korea on the 25th.
What can I do?? My flights are booked! My mates coming to meet me in Beijing!!
Anyone got a clue what I can do? |

I just called another one in Gangnam and they said 'impossible'. They said it is a 'Chinese embassy decision'. I'm going to call the embassy tomorrow. It's looking grim. |

I have no reason why the Chinese government would care about your ARC card. I am heading back to China to take the CELTA in Beijing, and I'm going to get a visa and leave here the day before my ARC card expires. I'm assuming I can come back to Korea and get a tourist visa before I take off again to somewhere else. Hope I won't have a problem. |

Heard from someone who's working for a travel agency - Chinese consulate DID change the rule regarding non-Koreans applying for Chinese visa in Korea, effective from July 1.
IF you have visited China within the last 2 years, submission of your ARC is unnecessary, and the consulate will verify this by the entry stamp on your passport.
IF you have NOT within the last 2 years, then visa application will be accepted if and only if the original ARC (not a copy) that is valid for more than 6 months is also submitted.
The reason for this new screening procedure was apparently never given to her. |

I have a friend with this same problem. Awful news from the embassy. Why do they care about a Korean residence card?? Has nothing to do with them.
Good to hear about the two year window thing, as I went there about a year and a half ago...means I still might be able to go to Tibet this fall... |

I have a friend who was also planning a trip to China this summer and got hit with this snafu. I have no idea why China gives a ModEdit about your Korean immigration status, but maybe you could change your flight to enter via Hong Kong and get the visa there. |

Just had a call from Ettehad to say that I can't get the visa. That was my last shot. Is there absolutely nothing I can do? This seems ridiculous. |

if you fly to hk and take ferry before customs to shekou china you can get a visa on arrival for 90 day dual entry 120 canadian. must arrive during daytime working hours and go to shekou from within the hk airport before clearing customs |

Thanks for the advice. That would be quite an expensive solution though, going to HK.
What about this - ship my passport to my mate in the UK with the visa application, have it issued in the UK, have my passport shipped back to me here. Do you think there would be a problem with the fact that my visa was issued in the UK and I haven't been there in 10 months or whatever? |
