This has been discussed before, but my situation is a little stranger. I booked a short Jeju trip right before my contract ends, but I'm going to be transferring my visa to a new school. Anyhow, immigration needs my passport and arc for a week or so and I may not get my docs back before my trip.
Some people have said you don't need your passport, but you do need your arc. So err.............
However......... I do have another passport (eu country), but it has no Korean visa (travel or otherwise) so it may look fishy if I use that instead. Do you just need some sort of offical government I.D. or do you need something that shows your allowed to be in Korea?
Any ideas? I could always submit everything when I get back, but that could potentially cut my trip home by a week or more and I'm only going home for 3 weeks. I'm going to call immi later this week, but any insight is appreciated. |

Seriously...the people in Korea will not care. Use your other passport. You aren't going through immi so any form of legal id will work for you. Since you don't have to go through immigration, they don't know or care how long you are in their country for. |

If you are transferring to new employer using an LOR, then immi doesnt take your passport or ARC to hold. You go to immi with your docs, passport and ARC, they approve the transfer and make a notation on the back of your ARC and hand it back to you. Your passport and ARC card never leave your sight and the whole process takes about 5 minutes. |

Yep that's what I'm doing. That's great news. I decided to just submit everything when I get back anyhow, but glad that I won't have to stick around for awhile before being able to fly home.
Thanks for the heads up. It's a big relief.
EDIT: What about when I change the address on my ARC? My recruiter said I need to do this before I leave as well, but this would require printing a new card... Eeeeee... I though transferring my visa would be less stressful, but it's becoming a bigger complication every day. |

Whoa... i didnt notice you saying anything about going home first... there isnt supposed to be any gap between your previous job and your new job to transfer with an LOR. Any gap, even 1 day, means you need to apply for a completely new visa with a whole new set of docs. I mean gaps between the end date on your LOR and the start date on your new contract should have no gaps. Also make sure that you have a multi-entry permit if you meet the previous requirements, otherwise you'll start from zero and have to apply for a new visa again, anyway.
Changing address is nothing. If youre referring to your residentional address in korea, you just go to immi and fill out the app for change of address and they make the notation on your arc (zero fees), very similar to changing employers with an LOR (if you did that correctly)(also should/could have been done at the same time you changed employers at immi). |

Ya I was aware of that, but I've worked it out with my future employer. The contract just states I'm starting earlier than I actually am so that I'm able to go home for a little while still.
I don't know... we'll see what happens. Worst comes to worst I'll have to gather new documents and get a new E2 when I go home. |

Then you should be fine. Do you already have the LOR from your current employer? I recommend getting now if you dont. Employers tend to 'forget' things they promised when it comes time to provide them. |
