Who in Odin's name greets metalheads with 'hi'???

Hast thou not heard the almighty Manowar?

You always greet metalheads with 'Hail!'

Unless you're into NSBM, then it's Hail! 14/88

Christ, I need to write a book about this....

I'm not a metal head, but my husband is. I do appreciate the melodic stuff and when guitars sound like staircases and marching (if that makes sense). I also like when the music presents a continuous story or mythology (the Norse stuff is great and the reason my cat is named Freja). I'd like there to be more sci-fi metal just sans screaming/dark growling. Does such a thing exist?

Yes. Off the top of my head, Canada's Voivod and Switzerland's Darkspace, also the old Floridian band, Nocturnus.

There's more, will post it up when I I'm not as inebriated as now.

Listened to Vovoid because all my favorite bands are Canadian. Not what I meant by melodic, but it seems sort of fun and poppy in tune. Lyrics are a bit... blah. That Polaroid song is better than the other clips I listened to, IMO. The vocals displease me but it could be because I am not into metal?

I'll try the others later.

Can you clarify exactly what you are looking for (in metal)? Otherwise I think you would have more luck with industrial and other such ilks.

High fantasy, experienced guitar work (less of the 3 chord punk sound), something epic, strong male vocals (any range is fine, just not overly angry though I don't mind emotional build up, just not screaming throughout). This may seem like a silly comparison, but I LOVE the music in that Metalocalypse show, just not the vocals and of course less goofy lyrics.

A lot of the music I listen to now falls in the "indie" range (whatever that means). Much of it utilizes violins and other instruments to create an old world sound or like a medieval troubadour sort of thing. These are elements I enjoy. I don't like powerhouse female vocals. I don't like anything "rap" crossover.

Am I being too specific? I have that problem.

I don't know, maybe like fantasy metal but less LOTR and more Dune.

Holy hell, woman, you want power metal! Check out Virgin Steele from the States, yes yes I know Euro power metal is more popular, but Virgin Steele! It doesn't get more epic than that!

Start with 'Invictus', then move on to the 'Marriage' albums, this is classic power metal, and very very epic! LEt me know what you think.

Listened to a few songs on Invictus. It is a BIG change for me. I really like that Veni, Vidi, Vici song. Very epic. The music itself is sooo great. Like it would be wonderful as instrumentals.

Thanks.
