My hair has morphed into a partially wavy, partially curly, frizzy mass reminiscent of a bad 80s string perm. It's cut in layers to release some of the curl but I have no idea what to do with it. I've tried using hair wax but that's not going so well. I need some sort of styling spray or cream to help define the layers and knock out some of the frizz. Does anyone know where I can find a magical product that will help tame my hair? |

Well...buy a flat iron? Many Koreans have irons to flatten their hair every day.... |

Flat irons don't work on my hair, especially in this humidity. Besides that, I don't want to fight with my hair everyday. I want to work with its natural texture. |

3 parts 'Hair Essence' one part milky gel. I have curly hair and this is my formula. Apply when hair is wet. |

Don't think that hasn't occurred to me. Snipping it with kitchen shears is as far as I've gone.

Is the milky gel the stuff that comes in the small plastic jars at The Face Shop? Do you let your hair air dry? |

a friend with very curly hair got hers straightened from time to time at the hair salon. Professional flat irons get a lot hotter than the ones that you can usually buy. Later she got a magic straight perm, and never looked back. |

Pangaea,
I would suggest you not get the magic straightener my friend got it and her hair is still trying to get back to normal after almost two years of getting it. But since you want to work with your natural hair anyway, I would suggest running a light oil through your hair like rosemary oil. Try it on wet and dry hair to see which way you like it best. Or try a leave in condtioner. Or maybe you can try some products for kinky/curly/wavy hair. Many African American products are great for all types curly hair. What many people do who want to work with their hair and not against it is to put a leave in conditioner or curl definer through their hair, put a large braid or two (or however many you want) and untwist it in the morning lightly fingercomb, so you don't get it frizzy before you step out the door, and you're set. |

A friend of mine had magic straight used on her hair and she loved it. And I must say it did look great, very straight, silky and smooth. Of course your hair could react badly but for a lot of people they have had great results. |

newyorker,
Yeah, it works. It did a great job at first, but after a while is when her hair started to get brittle and dry and almost after two years is her hair improving. It even grew out sort of dry and brittle for a while, but some people have no problems with it. |

I've heard good things about Morrocan Oil products, but I'm not sure where to find them in Korea if you even can. My plan is to try and find them when I go home (in a week!) and if I don't find them/they don't work as promised I'm getting the f-ing Magic Straight. I'm so sick of the rat's nest on my head. THIS HORRIBLE WEATHER. |

The wife has wavy/curly hair. She doesn't use shampoo, only conditioner. She rotates conditioners that she buys online. I can ask her more about it if you want. |

Not using shampoo seems kind of gross, especially in this humidity when we're all sweating a bit more.....ew.
As for the milky gel I mentioned.....I got it at HomePlus, the brand is Mise en Scene, and it's a green pump bottle that says 'Milky Gel' on it. The hair oil I use is just one of the many types of Hair Essence you can find here. I use about a tablespoon of that, then I squirt in a shot of the gel, mix it in my hands, and mix it through my hair starting about 2/3 of the way down, NOT right on the scalp. I turn my head upside down, run my fingers through it, and then forget about it for the rest of the day. You might want to adjust the amounts based on your hair type; I have long, thick hair, and in this humidity, it is literally in ringlets down my back. If your hair is shorter or less curly, you might not need as much.
Hope that helps! |
