| How difficult is it to obtain a letter of release from your school? Do you ask school board or principle? Also, what are the reasons schools would give you a letter of release for you to work for another company or institute (after the 30 day notice)? |

Public schools will NOT (as a matter of policy) grant a LOR.
Private institutes may grant one at their convenience but they are not obligated to provide it (which then requires you to obtain a new visa instead of a visa transfer).
Unless they WANT you to leave you are not likely to get a LOR.

Does that mean I have to return to my home country or can I just send off my stuff like my cbc and other things through the mail. The reason I ask is because I sent it through the mail even when i was there applying for my visa. Or can i do something else to apply for a new visa? |

IF you are IN KOREA then the "how you obtain your documents" is your business.
Your new visa application procedure:
Cancel your old visa.
(go with your boss to immigration can cancel it OR leave the country, hand in your ARC on the way out).
Return as a tourist.
Find a new job.
Apply for a new visa confirmation number (via your new employer)
make a visa run to Japan to get your new E2.
There are LOTS of threads with SPECIFICS on how to leave a job, find a new one and get a new visa. Just look back a few pages and you will run into at least one or 4.

| I work for Epik down in Busan and I was able to get a letter of release to move to Gepik. I just called them up and ask if they can write the LOR a few weeks before my contract ends so I can do a visa transfer. They were pretty nice about it because they knew I was finishing my current contract. It never hurts to simply ask.... |

That is PRECISELY what I am trying to do...move from EPIK to GEPIK. So let me ask you this...did you ask the Superintendent of your province or the principle of your school? |

Well, if you are granted the LOR, then no visa run is necessary. The transfer is done at the nearest immigration office, at least that is how it was for me. By the way, even my new employer was unaware of this-he was trying to tell me that I had to make a visa run, but I knew otherwise. I have now done 2 visa transfers without leaving Korea.
In the event you do have to make a visa run, it can be done in 24 hours, at least if you time it right. For my second contract I took the ferry from Busan to Fukouka in the morning, found the embassy and submitted my paperwork, came back the next day to pick it up, and then took the afternoon ferry back to Busan. (Tip:make sure you change enough won to yen before you even go-I didn't and it was a big headache for me) |

| If your contract is ending, then you just call the MOE. For example, I work in busan, so I called the BMOE. I told them I'm not renewing and I need a LOR to work for GEPIK. Usually they do not give out LOR unless you're completely finishing your contract and you want to work somewhere else. You still have to apply early for the visa transfer.
