...is SO gay. Just sitting here at the KTF fun center near the mega plex at coex listening to an hour of it...it's like 60's bubble gum music with perhaps 90 lb. Korean guys singing about being tough.

Most is yes but not all.
I would recommend MC Sniper and Drunken Tiger. It is not copycat US style but they have their own style.

Also Leessang is good if you like slower rap and for a little bit Cheesier anything from YG Family isn't too bad.

I agree though most korean rap is crap

There's one song...but I don't have the cd, so I can't remember anything about who or what it is (yeah, BIG help). If you really want to know, just tell me and I can get back to you...

Someone put it on a cd for me...starts off with an old Guns and Roses riff with the MC saying "This one goes out to all f***ed up Koreans" Basically a song full of dirty Korean words, upset my girlfriend when she heard it...Closest thing you'd probably find to Korean gangsta style...

there is plenty of good korean hip hop out there, it just doesnt get the attention it deserves. Artists such as garion, keeproots, kaknaekunae, trespass, kod and plenty of others that are yet to have releases.

DJSMNC,

That's Joe PD. I actually like some of his stuff.

For decent Korean hip-hop, give Garion a try. There still a bit underground, but the DJ/producer is a freind of mine and he's a huge hip-hop fan who's inspired not by making a buck in the Korean music scene, but by American producers like DJ Premier and RZA.

They've been doing a lot of shows in Hongdae lately.

Speaking of Korean wannabe rappers, the other day my kid walks up, slaps me on the back and says, "Whazzup, Dawwwg...?"

I was not pleased.

JU... I actually interviewed them a few weeks back, and seem to run into them at all the hip hop gigs. The one thing that I'm really feeling about them is their desire to develop a Korean style of hip hop, instead of copying the US. Their lyrics are all in Korean, and over 90% of their samples are as well.

As for drunken tiger, joosuc and anyone involved with MP or YG.... they all blow

Yea, JU... that's my boy.

I remember hanging out with him a few years ago and arguing... I suggested he produce some wack jiggy track for a major local label just to get some income to support the work he loves. He refused... "no sellout."

I really respect him for that... the man lives, sleeps, and breathes music as art

Funny story... I have some of their tracks on my playlist on my cafe. One night, as we were playing one of their songs... some customers who are big Garion fans told us how surprised and happy they were to hear their music. My girlfriend told them that the co-owner of our place (me) was actually friends with one of the members and that JU drops by occasionally. They were quite shocked...

Garion used to be associated with MP. But JU (I don't want to speak for the other members) has nothing but bad things to say about them now.
